Christmas Celebration 2011 @ M1

On the 24th of December, we celebrated Christmas at the Slava Zhizny foyer. The theme for this year’s Christmas event was ‘Give and Make A Difference’. The event brought together a crowd of 120 people from all the cell groups of 6 hotspots - Spartiv, Kahov, Yugo, Pushkin, Prospekt Vernadskava, VDNH. The event kicked-start at 6.30pm upon the arrival of Pastor Sergey and his family, our special guests of the night. We started out with singing lively evergreen carols to bring up the Christmas atmosphere. The crowd sang and danced along with the group of carolers, marked an amazing start to a wonderful Christmas eve.

After that, the game master divided us according to hotspots and we played a game using blindfolds. The task was that each hotspot representative is to reach their specific destination by hearing the cheers of their respective hotspots. The second game was led by Pastor Sergey with his creative song guessing game, which led the crowd into a time of fun and laughter. Pastor Sergey also shared a wonderful Christmas message about being the light of the world, and meeting the needs of those around us.

Chia Zhen then shared the offering message. He shared about the 3 attitudes of a giver - cheerful attitude, with our heart, giving our best. He challenged us to give towards the coming 2012 August summer missions. Daryl from Kahov hotspot then performed a well-known Christmas Carol ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’, which captured the hearts of the crowd.

The highlights of the night was Master Chef and X-mas Factor. Each hotspot prepared a dish and a performance - some sang, performed a sketch or even danced. Spartiv hotspot won the Master Chef with their classic scrumptious Christmas dish of Shepherd’s Pie, while Prospekt Vernadskava hotspot stole the hearts of all with their creative, hilarious and touching sketch which was in-lined with the theme of the event - Give and Make A Difference. The judges totaled up the marks for each category and Prospekt Vernadskava hotspot emerged as the overall champion of the night!

To end the wonderful night, everyone enjoyed a scrumptious meal of various food - Shepherd’s pie, cakes, buns, sushi, kebabs and salad. Everyone had smiles on their faces as they fellowship and take photos before ending a beautiful Christmas eve.

Christmas Celebration 2011 @ M2

In M2, countless of preparations were ongoing for two weeks before the much-awaited Christmas event. The theme for Christmas this year was “A Place Where You Can Call HOME This Winter”.

At 2pm in Grand MPH of Dom 39, the event kicked-start with a round of games led by two zestful emcees. The crowd immediately warmed up to one another and soon enough; greetings and laughter were heard at every corner of the hall. The evening had barely begun, but surely enough, the Christmas spirit was already in the air. After the ice-breaker, the guests were led to Dom 41 by the emcees and four ushers stationed outside in the cold. Once everyone was settled down, Billy Lee and the VIPs of the day gave a toast and Billy officiated the banquet dinner by saying, “Let the feast begin”.

The guests were each served a three-course meal and the menu consisted of creamy mushroom soup with crispy garlic bread as the appetizer; spaghetti as the meal-starter, and roasted chicken as the main meal. While they were enjoying their meal, the caroling team took the stage and performed “12 Days of Christmas”. After the wonderful banquet, the guests were once again led back to grand MPH Dom 39 for an exciting night. The emcees engaged the guests and got them to sing Jingle Bells as everyone entered the hall. An infotainment and video presentation greeted the guests and they were entertained with a display of comedy.

Soon after, mission testimonies were shared by Ganesh Kumar and Michelle Yap. Billy then further challenged people to sign up for missions. Many were touched by his sharing and the mission video and made the decision to join missions in 2012. After a dance and song performance, Yunn Min stole the limelight by challenging people to pledge to Missions 2012. Her theme was “Money and Dreams”. The response was good and many answered the challenge to pledge for a greater dream.

Before the night came to an end, Raymond See vowed and touched hearts with his appreciation and thanksgiving speech. The emcees then led everyone to sing Feliz Navidad and the guests were spoilt one last time with a delicious cheesecake. Everyone had a smile on their faces as they went round taking pictures and engaging in cheerful banters. What a wonderful way to end Christmas on a beautiful and snowy night.

Friends' Night 2011

“Friends are like stars, you do not always see them, but you know there are always there.”

On the 4th of November, the most anticipated event that awaits the freshmen of 2011, Friends’ Night was held with the theme ‘YOU CAN COUNT ON ME’. The event has brought together seniors and juniors from MSMU and RNRMU for a night filled with joy and laugher.

Upon arrival, the guests were warmly welcomed by the ushers. They were registered and separated into different groups. The heat was turned on as a group of second year seniors from RNRMU presented an entertaining dance with the latest hits. Next, Jivan took over as he lead the ice-breaking sessions. One of the ice-breaking tasks triggered the creativity of the groups to create the most lively and whacky shout-out for the event.

The highlights of the night did not just end there. After the ice-breaking session, all guests were ushered into the hall. Emcees Esther and Loyd welcomed everyone who were present that night. Dato' Zainol Abidin Omar, Ambassador of Malaysia in Russia was then invited up to the stage to give a speech. Pn. Harjit Kaur, the Consul was also present to give advice on passport and visa protocol to our freshmen.

In addition, there were amazing dance performances by Russian dance crew Saved as well as oriental dance group Amrita. Anton, a budding director, shared with us his experiences living in Moscow. Furthermore, there were also three lucky draw sessions that gave away a boiler, a steamer and a vacuum cleaner to three amazingly lucky guests.

Then, Andrew presented us the report from MF Humanitarian Missions 2011 which took place in August together with the Missions video. He strongly encouraged us future doctors to take part in this Missions to give, love and serve. Last but not least, the night ended with a lighthearted yet original video about friendship, produced by our very own Chilli Productions.

At 9pm, light refreshment was served. Everyone seized the opportunity to make new friends and mingle with one another. It was truly a memorable night especially for the newcomers. Everyone went home with a smile on their faces and with an encouraged spirit to anticipate what is installed ahead for them.

MF Humanitarian Missions 2011

In 2011, Malaysian Fellowship successfully mobilized 41 teams of 450 medical students and doctors to 11 countries which include, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Russia.

This year, our teams have collectively impacted the lives of more than 13400 people through medical clinics alone. In all the mobile clinics, the teams provided the locals with free health check-ups and medications. In many of the countries, the teams saw common diseases of diabetes, anaemia and hypertension. Many of the children they attended to suffer from malnutrition. Various skin infections were rampant among the people. Majority of them were living in abject poverty and poor standards of hygiene, which lead to a poor quality of life.

Health talks were also conducted as subjected to the needs of the local communities, primarily emphasizing on the importance of personal hygiene to instill a higher standard of sanitation. Basic educational activities, too, were prepared for the local children.

Various teams have made visitations to the orphanages, center for the blind, handicap centre and drug rehabilitation centre. To many of the individuals, some teams have managed to provide them with basic necessities like blankets and food. In Vietnam, the team have provided books and stationeries for children in five villages while in Russia, the teams distributed food to the homeless every week.

This year, MF had the opportunity of initiating several community development projects. In Baray District of Cambodia, we had the opportunity to fund and assist in the building of a well. This well will supply the entire Osue Sedi village with clean water. In Bihar, MF is currently building a primary school on half an acre of land consisting of 2 classroom blocks, office, kitchen and teachers’ quarters equipped with basic furniture.

Many of our volunteers had the opportunity to experience new cultures, allowing them to broaden their horizons while enhancing their medical skills. They built meaningful relationships with the villagers as well as their teammates whom they have worked alongside throughout the whole mission.

Although we ministered and treated people from different races, backgrounds, languages, cultures and religions, we noticed a similar response from everyone, whose lives we touched. From the mountains of Davao, to the jungles of Chiang Mai, to the paddy fields of Bihar, to the bustling train stations of Moscow, people felt the love of God. And that makes everything worth it.

Graduation Night 2011

Graduation from university marks the start of a new chapter in life - the end of being a student and the start of being a working adult. For every 6th year graduate, it has been a challenging journey, with lots of ups and downs - but now it’s time to move on to greater things ahead.

Graduation Night 2011 was held on the 24th of June, and it was an evening to appreciate our beloved graduates for all of their contributions, and celebrate their achievements thoughout their time here in Moscow. It was held at the Slava Zhizny foyer with a total of 60 guests. Upon arrival, the graduates had a round of ice-breakers, consisting of four different stations namely ‘sweet’, ‘sour’, ‘bitter’ and ‘spicy’; each station consisting of its own set of rules and tasks.

Then the night began, as one by one the graduates walked into the hall, all dressed in their best. The event kick-started with the opening video, followed by dinner, consisting of an 11 course meal of scrumptious chinese cuisine. Everyone ate to their hearts content. During the dinner, we were entertained by a special musical performance by Yunn Min and Billy. A special video with words of appreciation and encouragement for the graduates also touched many of those present there.

Dr. Kim Wee Ric and Dr. Lee Tjen Jhung gave their speeches, both of which really encouraged and inspired us to aim for the best, and to continue to work towards the dream God has placed into our hearts. Next, Pastor Sergey presented certificates and gifts to the graduates. Each graduate received a certificate of appreciation along with a decorated bottle containing messages from friends and juniors. Pastor Sergey also gave some words of encouragement to the graduates and prayed for them.

The night was brought to an end by a closing speech by Andrew and a toast, wishing the graduates all the best in their next chapter of life. It was a truly a memorable night; everyone went home with smiles on their faces and a renewed hope for the future in their hearts!

BBQ Outing with Pastor Sergey

It was a beautiful Saturday morning, and spirits were high as the 6th year seniors of MF, both M1 and M2 set out to join a picnic hosted by our very own Pastor Sergey. The location of the picnic was in the outskirts of Moscow. The town was called Sorokino and it was situated beside a water reserve. The journey there was rather long and everyone had to take a bus to reach the destination.

Upon reaching the destination, the seniors were first treated to some games hosted by May Shi. There were laughs and smiles all around as they enjoyed themselves. The mood was lively but it was clear there was mainly one thing on everyone’s mind.

After the completion of the games segment, it was soon the time everyone was waiting for. Everyone dove eagerly into the food that had been painstaking prepared by Pastor and a few students. The variety was pretty good with sandwiches, sushi, sausages, chicken wings, potatoes and even marshmallows. Everyone agreed how delicious the food was and praised the effort of those involved.
When everyone had finished eating, we then gathered around to listen to a few words from Pastor. Pastor Sergei shared some key points to the seniors. He reminded them as they were going to leave Moscow soon to not forget about each other. He urged them to value family as well as friendships. Although he was serious, his short message was also interspersed with bits of humor eliciting laughter from those gathered many a time. From the looks on the senior’s faces, it was clear that he had really shared something close to their heart.
After the short speech, everyone decided to play paintball at a small ranch that we had seen entering the reserve earlier. Everyone was excited and it was the first time playing for some people as well. We all had a good time trading bullets and challenges all in good spirit.
As usual, all good things must come to an end. At approximately 7.30pm, it was time to go home. There was tired but happy faces all around and I must say I feel everyone enjoyed themselves very much on this day.

Women's Day Celebration 2011 @ M1

On the 1st of April 2011, the ladies of Malaysian Fellowship (M1) were treated to a pleasant Women’s Day surprise. Although it was a little late, but little did they know that the men in MF had planned for them an evening of fun and enjoyment.

At 6pm, the ladies, who were all dolled up for the occasion, arrived at Vorob’evy Gory Metro Station. Preparations for the evening had been mysterious and secretive as they had no idea what the evening had in store for them. There they were greeted by a few ushers and had their pictures taken. They were all excited and looking forward to the event ahead.
After everyone had arrived, they were then led outside of the Metro station into two waiting vans to take them to the still yet to be revealed destination. The weather was nice and laughter and jokes filled the air as the vans left.

After half an hour in the notorious Moscow rush hour traffic, they finally arrived at their destination. The ladies were pleasantly surprised to be serenaded by Aaron, Sylas and Matthew Thomas. Just as soon as they finished, they were then escorted to inside the hotel by the ushers.

Upon reaching the 33rd floor, they were then asked to wait as the emcees of the night, Kai Chi and Liyu announced their names one by one before they were escorted into a small yet cozy Chinese restaurant by the ushers. The interior of the restaurant had been decorated beforehand by the men. The tables were adorned with name tags and pretty handiwork.

Soon the food was served and the ladies were treated to a special performance by the men. Kai Chi and dance crew stole the night with their dancing to numerous songs, among them the most notable being Gee by SNSD. There was also an appreciation ceremony in which the girls were appreciated, each of them receiving a small gift.

After a few courses of food, the best dressed lady of the night was announced. It was none other than Wee Gee. The men then gathered and sang “Just the Way you are” for all the ladies. At the end, every lady received a rose.
After everything had concluded, the ladies were then once again escorted out of the restaurant. Many of them had no idea that the best surprise lay in waiting for them.

There were squeals and shrieks of delight all around as they realized that their mode of transport back to their respective hostels was none other than a spanking new limousine. Boarding the limo, the ladies once again took the opportunity to snap even more pictures. The looks on their faces were priceless and this then brought a curtain down on the Women’s Day celebration for this year.

On the 28th of March 2011, the M2 men committees were secretly planning a romantic night out for the M2 girls committees. Some went from door to door to extend their invitations in the afternoon, while some were behind the scenes cooking and preparing everything for an exciting night.

At 4:45 in the evening, the guys went to their designated rooms and personally escorted a girl each to the ground floor, where everyone would gather and leave to a preplanned destination which was unknown to the ladies.

The first destination was the magnificent Red Square. Jivan, who was the emcee for the night alongside Gajaen, gave an introduction and instructions for the photo session competition that was to be held in front of Gum shopping centre and St. Basil Church. Throughout the whole night, the 27 girls who were separated into 2 groups were required to strike their best pose for the camera.

After the photo session, the guys then took the girls for a stroll along the road. As we walked, we came upon two huge white limousines, one Hummer and the another a Ford. Much to our delight, Billy announced that those would be our rides for the night! It was indeed a fairytale and a dream come true for many girls.
In the limousines, the guys engaged us with a variety of genre of music and games while serving us champagne which was followed by appetizers. Excited chatters echoed in the limo as the cameramen went snapping away to capture all the beautiful and happy faces that night.

The next stop was the legendary Lover’s Bridge and the main landmark of that place is Christ the Saviour Church. The guys touched the hearts of all the girls by dedicating Enrique’s “Hero” on the Lover’s Bridge. Despite the cold, the love radiating from the guys brought warmth and melted all our hearts.

As it got colder outside, we all decided to stay in the limo and enjoy ourselves as the limo cruised its way around the city that never sleeps. What is a celebration without good food? The guys were thoughtful enough to prepare a variety of finger-licking food for us, such as homemade sushi, crispy fried chicken, moist chocolate cake, and a continuous flow of drinks and light snacks.

Just when we thought that the night couldn’t be any better, the guys gave us a final surprise by making a final stop at МГУ. Once again, they serenaded us with two more songs at a bridge that overlooked the beautiful city of Moscow. To complete our night, Eric Kim represented all the M2 men committees by giving out roses and an appreciation goodie bag to all the girls.
As we watched the city lights flashed by while heading back to our hostel, deep down in our hearts, we can’t help but to thank God repeatedly for these wonderful men of God that He has placed into our lives.

Change Your World Charity Concert 2011

The temperature may have been subzero outside Slava Zhizny Concert Hall in Moscow, Russia but the crowd of 1000 people inside were definitely fired up for the opening this highly anticipated event.

On the 7th of March, audiences were wowed by Change Your World Charity Concert 2011, featuring Malaysian artistes Vince Chong and Juwita Suwito as well as other Russian and Malaysian student acts. The Concert was a joint effort of the Change Your World Committee, consisting of medical students from Moscow State Medical University (MSMU) and Russian State Medical University (RSMU).

The concert, themed ‘This Is Your Moment’, successfully raised a total of 100,000 rubles (RM 10,000) for ‘Helping Hands’, a local non-profit organization providing practical assistance to underprivileged people in Moscow.

Present at the event was the Malaysian Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Dato’ Zainol Abidin Omar and his family, Dr. Dalvinder Singh, first-runner up of the Asian Youth Ambassador (AYA) Award 2010, as well as other dignitaries and student leaders.

Kicking off the event was SAVED, a Russian hip-hop dance crew who activated the opening sequence with an iPad. Two iPads would be later given away as the grand prize in the lucky draw. The Russian rock band, NUTEKI appeared on a dark stage wearing Venetian masks to perform their song ‘Circus’. As a testimony to their tremendous showmanship, they received roaring cheers from the crowd as their suits illuminated in the middle of the song ‘Rain Down’.

Not failing to entertain the crowd with their rendition of Eric Clapton’s ‘Change The World’, the 9 piece group Crossroads proved that Malaysian medical students studying abroad were musically talented as well. The Electrohoppers, a student dance team also impressed the audience with their fluid movements.

Having performed in more than 100 concerts all across Russia, the band SIMPLE STUFF seemed like a well seasoned band but in actuality the oldest member of the band was only 14! The crowd adored them as they performed their own single ‘Escape’. Another star present that night was Yuri Ignatov, the Russian Idol finalist, performing ‘Stand By Me’ originally performed by Ben E. King. His performance brought the whole crowd to their feet as they were dancing and waving their glow sticks.

All the way from Malaysia, Juwita Suwito rocked the stage performing ‘All This Time’ and her latest single ‘Stand’. The down to earth Malaysian Idol singing coach, singer and songwriter blew away the crowd with her vocal prowess.

The highlight of the evening was when the first winner of Akademi Fantasia, Vince made a back entrance and took the crowd by storm with ‘Layan Saja’ and Josh Groban’s ‘You Raise Me Up’. Juwita then united with Vince and performed a flawless rendition of “The Prayer”. The duo gained a standing ovation for their beautiful performance.

Dr. Dalvinder Singh, founder of the non profit organisation ‘Malaysian Fellowship’ was next on stage to inspire and challenge future doctors to make a difference in their communities by taking part in social and humanitarian works. He added that he strongly believes that these are some of the elements that can bring a positive impact to society as a whole.

All the performers returned to the stage one last time to sing Michael Jackson’s classic, ‘Heal the World’. As they sang the song, balloons showered down to the delight of the audience. In the spirit of 1Malaysia, the performers also sang ‘Here in My Home’, originally performed by Malaysian Artists For Unity, thus drawing the event to a close.

After the event, the audience left with goodie bags and smiles on their faces. Many had the opportunity to meet the artistes for pictures and autographs. For many, the chance to listen to Juwita and Vince sing live in Moscow was a once in a lifetime experience.

Event organizers, Marcus Chiang and Billy Lee both agreed that the sleepless nights were worth it. “Seeing the smiles on people’s faces made everything worth it,” said Marcus.

Project advisor, Andrew Kok was grateful for the opportunity he was given. “Regardless of the magnitude of the event, I am just glad that we could do something small to give back to the community around us. This was our moment to change the world! As someone once said,"nobody can help everybody, but everybody can help somebody."

Diagnosis with Dr Shan Ong

On the 5th March 2011, young aspiring doctors from RSMU and FMSMU braved the cold, making their way to M2’s auditorium for the much anticipated lecture that was about to be delivered. “Making a Diagnosis” by the much accredited Dr Shan Ong had been the talk of the town and the day finally arrived for him to be in Moscow.

The lecture commenced at about 3.30pm. Dr Shan wasted no time in addressing the flaws in the Russian education system which was coming up with a correct diagnosis and an effective treatment plan. Dr Shan briefed us shortly regarding acute and chronic illnesses.

Dr Shan further expounded on the rule that “common things occur commonly”. He stressed the importance of making a provisional diagnosis (most likely condition) and then further short listing at least 3 differential diagnoses. In essence, during patient examination, it is important that we follow a step by step process of history taking, physical examination and further investigations.

Dr Shan also stated the importance of history taking. Essentially, he wanted us to know how to ask the right questions that will further aid our investigation and also help us arrive at our provisional diagnosis. In short, history taking should be designed to help us arrive at our provisional diagnosis and eliminate or make the other differentials less likely.

Moving on to physical examination, it is important to have a keen eye and a knack for looking for associated complications of the primary diagnosis. The physical examination should be designed to confirm the provisional diagnosis or to rectify mistakes depending on your findings. At the end of it, we must review the list of diagnoses once again.

Lastly, investigations or tests carried out should be designed to confirm your provisional diagnosis, to also exclude other differentials made and to look out for associated complications of the provisional diagnosis. It is important that we keep in mind to not order tests out of “routine” or “just in case” as it is a waste of time and resources.

Dr Shan then further devised a way and gave us a simple guideline about how we should approach a particular condition that we are unsure about. Simply by following two simple guides, which is categorizing by SYSTEM (cardiovascular, respiratory, GIT, etc) and PATHOLOGY (infection, tumour, cancer, trauma, autoimmune, degenerative, vascular, metabolic).

All in all, Dr Shan captivated each and everyone of us in the hall that day. He ended the lecture by reviewing two cases with us and opening the floor for discussion. It was truly an eye opening experience and we all left with a renewed enthusiasm to perform our best as medical students and future housemen!

Combined Meeting with Dr Dalvinder Singh

On Friday, the 4^th of March, a combined meeting was held at the Namiotkina Christian Hall. All the way from Malaysia, we had the Founding Director of Malaysian Fellowship, Dr Dalvinder Singh to speak to us that night. All of us were really blessed to have this great leader back in Moscow again. Praise God!

Starting from 7, the hall was gradually packed with the excited crowd even as some of us just had a long day of classes and exams. Most of us had been anticipating the return of the Boss while some of us were eager to meet this ‘giant of God’ for the first time.

The meeting commenced at 8pm with Jivan leading us in a round of ice breaker games. Everyone was even more hyped up after the games. Soon after, Geng Yan and his team led everyone into a session of praise and worship. Next, Andrew shared with us an offering message centered on the verse from Philippians 4:19. God will supply all our needs when we trust in Him. Then, it was the session most of us had been looking forward to. Andrew first did a formal introduction to welcome Dalvin on stage.

The message was titled ‘Step into the Promised Land’. In order to step into the Promised Land, we must not make the mistakes of the children of Israel. Firstly, we should always remember God’s goodness. In Deuteronomy 5:15 and Psalm 77:11 both verses exhort us to ‘remember’. Secondly, we must constantly give thanks to God. It is important for all of us to have an attitude of gratitude. Dalvin shared with us his experiences as a houseman. He told us a series of interesting events, which got us all ears.

Lastly, we must fight to the finish. Joshua 1:9 states, “Be strong and of good courage; for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” and Ephesians 6:10-13, “… Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God...” With God, we are all overcomers and winners!

Indeed the message was inspiring and all hearts in that hall was stirred. The meeting ended soon after a short fellowship.

Vision '11 Nothing is Impossible

1st of January, Vision 11 was held at Namiotkina Christian Hall to lead all of us into a new year with renewed faith and personal visions and also to thank God for His goodness in the previous year.

The event started at 6pm with an ice-breaking session led by Kugan and Jivan. We were then ushered into God’s presence by the May Shi and the rest of her worship team with “Nothing is Impossible”, “Our God is Greater” and “My God is Able”.

After an amazing session of praise and worship, Charmaine Ch’ng went on stage to share with us her testimony on becoming a cell group leader for the first time and leading the fastest growing cell group in M1. God truly is a God of miracles! Then it was offering time; Eric shared about the Law of Harvest. How we sow, determines how we will reap. Andrew then went up to do a recap of the year 2010 with us. After that, we were led into prayers by Isaac to thank God for what have been made possible and came to pass.

Soon after, Andrew took over the session again and talked about ‘Faith’. In the Bible, God did not mention about any other heroes but the Heroes of Faith. He gave us give 6 points about faith: Walk, Work, Wait, War, Worship and Wish. John 20:29 says, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believed.” Certainly, Faith is what has driven Malaysian Fellowship thus far and it is what will drive us even further. Andrew then shared about the upcoming events in 2011. We were then given out Goal Setting cards and guided by Andrew to pen down our goals for the year.

Then, we were shown a short film, A Christmas Tale, produced by our very own media team, Geng Yan and his assistant, Eugene. Both the actors and the crew awed the crowd with their hidden talents. Then, Marcus talked to us about the biggest and most anticipated event of the year, Change Your World Charity Event and encouraged the congregation to pledge for the event. Later it was Leaders Appreciation time, Andrew and Eric took the stage and thank the leaders. One by one the leaders went in front to receive gifts prepared by the organizing team.

There was a surprise session unknown to Andrew and Eric. Marcus and Billy took over the mic ‘abruptly’ from the both of them. Just as they want to thank the leaders for their hardwork, we too want to appreciate their sacrifices they have made throughout the years. The M2 guys sang a meaningful song titled “Thank You for Giving to the Lord” and a video of collection of CG members expressing their gratitude towards the two amazing men was shown. It was indeed a tearful moment for some.

Another surprise was prepared by Eric for his leaders before the night drew to a close. During this time, Eric and his Zone Leaders passed on their batons to the upcoming leaders.

What good is a Malaysian event without food? Richelle and her F&B team prepared for the guests delicious Mee Goreng and fizzy drinks. That night, people did not only go home with a filling stomach but also a heart bursting with faith believing that nothing is impossible. Indeed, the best is yet to come!

Christmas Celebration 2010

Last Saturday, Moscovites awakened to a fresh fall of snow as Christmas dawned upon the city. It was the birth of Christ and it was a beautiful white Christmas this year.

In Pushkin hostel, preparations were ongoing for the annual Malaysian Fellowship Christmas Celebration. The theme was this year was “Christmas Ain’t The Same Without You”. Everything looked promising for yet another unforgettable Christmas party.
At 6 pm, the event began. Led by two energetic emcees, it wasn’t long before the crowd warmed up to them and began responding to everything they said. The audiences were led in a couple of simple games and everyone participated. The evening had barely began and there already wide smiles and laughter all around.

The MF choir led by our very own Daryl Sin took the stage immediately after the games. Everyone was silent as their melodious renditions of timeless Christmas classics ushered in a sense of reverential awe among the four walls of the hall. They left the stage to deafening applause and the emcees took the stage to engage in lively banter with the audience.

Next up, the audiences were all pumped up and ready to enjoy the premiere of a fully MF-produced short film titled “A Christmas Tale”. In 16 short minutes, the audience was treated to a display of comedy and occasional nail-biting suspense. Judging from the response, the directors had did an amazing job.

After some more performances, Malaysian Fellowship Chairman Andrew Kok took the stage and challenged the audience to give this Christmas away. Donation boxes were passed around as he spoke about the humanitarian work MF had been doing in the last year. The response was good and many people answered the call to give.

Food was then served to the hungry guests as the final event on the agenda. With a menu boasting pasta, salad, cakes as well as turkey, guests were spoiled for choice. It was a perfect way to end the evening. Outside, snow still continued to fall gently as this year’s Christmas came to a perfect end.

'Thanksgiving Dinner' - Christsmas Celebration @ M2 Hotspot

One of the most-awaited events of the year in M2 hostel was held on the 18th and 19th of December in various rooms all over our hostel. A total of 9 cell groups with 153 members participated in this thanksgiving dinner. This event marked the beginning of our ‘MF Family Membership’. To qualify as a ‘MF Family Member’, each member must fulfil certain requirements. The whole purpose of our ‘M2 Thanksgiving Dinner’ was to bless our existing members as well as newcomers who have been attending cell group every week faithfully.

Before kick-starting the event on a high note, all departments from each cell group (e.g. carolling team, F&B team) met up respectively to discuss and plan ahead for this event. All the cell groups were required to have a synchronized flow of carols and food, as well as offering message and the ‘True Meaning of Christmas’.

The carols that were specifically chosen were ‘The First Noel, Deck The Halls, Gloria, Joy To The World, Silent Night, Jingle Bells, Hark The Herald Angels Sing, Feliz Navidad and We Wish You A Merry Christmas’. The five-star meal on that night included Caesar salad, mushroom soup, mashed potato, roasted turkey, moist chocolate cake and cocktail which were all prepared by our awesome F&B team from every cell group. Praise God for talented chefs in our M2 hostel!

On the 16th and 17th of December, most cell groups have already begun to decorate their respective rooms in anticipation to an exciting thanksgiving dinner together. Many young and creative minds were revealed in this process. Together, everyone strived to create the best setting and ambience for the dinner.

On the 18th and 19th of December, a total of 9 cell groups held their dinner at their own respective times. Most of the cell groups started off with games to get everyone pumped-up for an exciting night. After that, carols were lead by the worship leader and guitarist to bring in the festive mood. Many enjoyed the carolling time as the songs brought joy and laughter to everyone.

After carolling, offering message was shared. Many were touched and convicted to give during this season. All the offering collected will be given to a ministry in WOL who feed the hungry and homeless in Russia called ‘Ruka Pamoch’ (Helping Hand).

Next in line was sharing of the word by all the cell group leaders. Some shared about ‘The True Meaning of Christmas’ while some shared about ‘The Birth of Jesus Christ’. Many members who were non-Christians finally understood the true meaning of Christmas on that night and it touched their hearts.

The next item on the itinerary was the highlight of the day – the five-star dinner! Everyone indulged in the delicious food and had a wonderful time of fellowship at the same time. Dinner never tasted as good as this!

The last item of the night was gift exchange! Many cell groups exchanged gifts using the ‘Secret Santa’ a.k.a. ‘Guardian Angel’ method while some cell groups exchanged gifts using charades. All in all, Christmas is a time to give; and everyone found more joy in giving their presents away to bless others.

In a nutshell, our M2MF family had a wonderful and mind-blowing time celebrating Christmas together. Although we are all far away from home, we know that over here in Moscow; we have a big and happy family who loves us and cares for us. What better way than to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ than with our family here! Happy Birthday Jesus Christ!

Christmas Party @ Spartive 2010

On the 11th of December 2010, 2 cell groups came together to celebrate Christmas in Spartive study room. There were a total of 23 people who attended the celebration, this included 3 guests from Studencheskaya. It began at 6.30pm with the arrival of the guests. The room was beautifully decorated by the decoration team.

The celebration started with an ice breaker called “Complete the Sentences”. Aaron the game master divided the guests into 3 groups and then explained the rules of the game. At the end of the game the loser was forfeited. The room was filled with laughters as the losing group carried out their punishment.

What is a good Christmas celebration without Christmas caroling? Jayne and her team led the guests in singing some all-time-favourite Christmas carols such as “Joy to the World, O Come All Ye Faithfull, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Away in a Manger and Feliz Navidad”. During the last song the guests went around wishing each other Merry Christmas.

After that, everyone was sitted at the nicely decorated long dining table. Kenix then shared with us what Christmas was all about from John 3:16. She started off by asking the guests “ What is Christmas? ”. From the world point of view, Christmas was all about Santa Claus, reindeer, turkey, presents and etc. However from the Christians’ point of view, Christmas is the day when Jesus was born. She then asked again, “Who was Jesus?” and explained that Jesus is the Son of God that came to save us and show us how to live by being an example.

In John 3:16, God did not just talked about giving, He first put into action and show us how to live. Therefore we can give without loving but can never love without giving! We were shown a bigger picture of Christmas: Jesus’ birthday, is a gift of God to all. It is not just about receiving gifts from everyone but a time to learn how to give and appreciate everyone and everything around us.

After sharing, food was served and a great time of fellowship began. The food which was prepared by Joanne and her team included mushroom soup with garlic bread, fruit salad, shepherd’s pie, roast chicken with cranberries sauce and finished off with fruit jelly with ice-cream. Halfway through the dinner we had gift exchanged. The fellowship went on with more Christmas carols, games and a photography session to commemorate the night. By 10 o’clock, the guests began to leave and gift packs were handed out to them.

All in all, the night had left each and everyone of us with nothing but fond memories!

Academic Excellence Talk @ Pushkin

Last Saturday (4th December 2010), Pushkin Hotspot hosted an Academic Excellence talk at their hostel. We were very priviledged to have Tjen Jhung, the crème de le crème among his batchmates, to conduct the talk.

At 7 in the evening, the crowd started to make way to the Study Room, anticipating the arrival of Tjen and Andrew. The event kicked off with a simple game, called the ‘Moo’ game to hype up the crowd. Andrew then stepped up to introduce Tjen to us as many juniors had vague idea about their senior.

Tjen took over the stand soon after and shared with us about ‘Preparing for Finals in Russia’. He began by assuring us that all of us can score well. However, we first have to find our prime time, that is, the period of time when we can focus the best and achieve the highest input. He also urged us to use our prime time wisely by removing possible distractions, such as instant messaging tools, computer games and television series.

He then went on to teach us about ‘Step by step Exam Preparation’:

1. Acquire Information
There are many ways and places we can obtain information from but we are not always sure which is the best. Best sources included self-written notes, textbooks provided by our school and the Internet.

2. Input
After acquiring all the notes needed, it is time for us to sit down and ruminate the information.

3. Recall
Recalling the information, which you have studied, is fundamental. It can ensure us that we have truly perceived the knowledge. We can recall by doing MCQs and situational tasks prepared by teachers. We can also practice active recalling.

4. Exam
When the big day comes, we have to make sure that we sleep well the night before. Having insufficient rest can affect our performance during exam tremendously!

The talk wrapped up with a Q&A session. It has indeed inspired all those who attended and definitely left them with a stronger desire to strive for excellence in their studies!

Leadership Meeting with Pastor Sergei @ Spartiv

On the 3rd of December 2010, the leaders of the Moscow Malaysian Fellowship began to fill the Spartiv Study Room at 7pm, all anticipating an exciting night of powerful Word from Pastor Sergei . We started off with a simple team building game called ‘The Human Knot’. Everyone had a fun time trying to untie the tangle.

When Pastor Sergey finally arrived, we gave him a warm Malaysian Fellowship welcome as he walked into the room. May Shi and her team of musicians then led us into a time of praise and worship. Next, Andrew shared the offering message based on a verse from Deuteronomy 8:18. How do we remember God? One of the main ways is through the act of giving. As we love God and remember all His goodness and mercy to our lives, we do our best to show our love to Him by our tithes and offering. As the saying says, “you can give without loving, but you can never love without giving.”

Finally, Pastor Sergey shared with us from John 10:1-8, the foundation to becoming a pastor or a leader. He gave us insight to every verse, which taught us how we can be good shepherds to our sheep, like how Jesus was the Good Shepherd to us. The only way to the sheep is through the door, and the door is Jesus himself. So the first thing we need to do is to go Jesus; and only then we pray for the people and bring them to Christ. Whenever we need a word of wisdom, we just need to ask God, and He will speak to us, for God works with us, not instead of us.

Now that we have brought the sheep, how do we help them to know our voice, like how the sheep recognizes the voice of the shepherd? By being devoted to each person through spending quality time with them and sharing our experiences, we are able to build strong relationships.

Like how diseases spread, a person needs to really be infected with the disease himself, and be close enough to another person to be able to spread the disease to the them. So from this illustration, there are 2 points to how we can infect others with the Word:
1) We have to be infected with His Word
2) We have be really close to others

Like how Jesus gave His life for His sheep, we need to follow after His example by giving our time to care for the people. In verse 12, when troubles come, the good shepherd stays and protects the sheep. So likewise, we need to protect our people by standing in the gap for them spiritually, physically as well as in prayer. Not only in troubled times do we have to be there, but at all times, as how Christ was always there for us.

Indeed, the message was a powerful one and hearts were moved. The meeting ended with a wonderful time of food and fellowship.

It was that time of the year again when Pastor Joakim Lundqvist of Word Of Life Uppsala, Sweden came to Moscow for the Youth 2010 Conference! The lively and anointed leader of the 'New Generation' movement returned to inspire young people to share the Gospel to those in their schools and universities.

Pastor Joakim preached on two occasions, the first during the Evangelistic Weekend church services and on the opening of the Youth 2010 conference. On these occasions we managed to see Pastor Joakim's amazing ability to transform from an evangelist to a charismatic youth pastor, captivating a wide audience with his powerful illustrations. During the weekend services, his message titled 'Welcome Home' explained clearly how we are greatly loved and how God wants us to return back to Him.

During the opening of the Youth 2010 Conference, he encouraged us to make a connection with the world around us, because 'when the Church of God receives an exclamation mark, the world receives a question mark'. He shared that with the help of the Holy Spirit, as we are equipped to share God's word, the world will be more open to receiving it. This encouraged us to step out of our comfort zone into the comfort zone of someone else, in hopes of sharing God's love to them.

The leaders were also fortunate to be able to speak to him and have lunch with him. Although his trip to Moscow was short, we were really blessed to be able to have such a man of God impart wisdom into our lives. We look forward to having him around again next year!

Friends' Night 2010

On the 16th of October 2010, Friends Night brought together seniors and juniors from MSMU and RSMU for a night to remember. Making their way from the pick-up points to the hall, excitement could be seen on the people’s faces as they were greeted with smiles from the security and usher team.

A total of 320 people gathered in the Red Hall for the first part of the event. Everyone was divided into teams, and games were lead by Jivan and his crew. They played four games and everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly. The games really lightened the atmosphere and as the people made their way to the Blue Hall, everyone was pumped up and ready for the main part of the event.

The event began with a touching opening video portraying the theme of the event, ‘Because Friends Matter’, immediately followed by SAVED and their energetic dance routine. Dre the Rapper came up next, followed by the drama team - a crowd favourite.

Eric, 6th year from from RSMU came up to share with everyone his experience while living in Moscow, while giving some pointers to the new 1st year students. Andrew then introduced the Malaysian Fellowship, our past events and events to come, not forgetting the MF Humanitarian Missions. We also had the opportunity to hear from Dr Shan Ong, all the way from Australia. In his video, he encouraged all the students to excel in their studies and to make a difference.

Isaac and his models introduced the Russian t-shirt designs - ‘Я♥РОССИЮ’ and ‘СССР’ to the crowd and encouraged them to grab one for themselves or for their loved ones as a souvenir. Next came the lucky draw. After drawing the 2nd number, Alyssa walked away with a new 5th generation iPod Nano!

The night came to a close with the birthday celebration of the October babies and the closing song ‘I’ll Be There For You’. At the exit of the hall, everyone was given a little goodie bag containing the ‘Student’s Survival Guide to Moscow’ booklet, MF Missions Report 2010 and the latest Malaysian Fellowship pen.

Like every other event, refreshments were served and people stayed back to enjoy the food and fellowship, capturing precious moments with their friends on camera. Old friends were brought together, and for others, new friendships were formed. Indeed, the memory of the night will remain on our minds and hearts for days and months to come.

Euro-Asia Conference 2010 in Word of Life Moscow

From the 22nd to the 26th of September 2010, the Euro-Asia Conference was held at Word of Life Church in Moscow in conjunction with the 15th anniversary of the church. It brought pastors and church leaders from different regions and countries to receive from God renewed visions and word needed to further their ministries. The Conference featured influential and anointed speakers such as Pastor Matts Ola, Pastor Ulf Ekman and Pastor Mark Connor.

Leaders and upcoming leaders of various hotspots who attended were greatly blessed by the Word of God. Many were left touched and empowered by the presence of Holy Spirit throughout the conference.

The conference was opened by the founder of Word of Life, Pastor Ulf Ekman. He began by teaching about “Life as a Minister and Servant”. In the book of Jeremiah 3:15, “And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding.” On the second evening, Pastor preached about how to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Pastor urged us to learn to discern from the Holy Spirit. As we do, our lives will become an adventure because through the Holy Spirit, our mindset will be renewed, we become more flexible and God can use us more to do things way beyond our human limitations!

Pastor Mark Connor took over the pulpit on the third evening and shared with us about worries. We are often prisoned by our fear, depression, anger and addiction. But, Pastor acclaimed that Jesus is our prison breaker and through Him, freedom can be achieved. He then gave us 4 tips to help us cease our worries.

1. Specify our worries; write them down in a list. You’ll realize most of your worries are in fact not worth worrying about.
2. Turn worry into an action; if there’s a problem, solve it. If there’s a decision to be made, start making it.
3. Offer a prayer to God; Phillipians 4:6-7, we cannot stop thoughts from coming into our mind but we can have them captivated and turned into prayer. When worries are turned into prayer, it becomes a powerful tool.
4. Trust in the Lord; our lives are not subjected to fate or chance. Even when our lives seem to get out of control, we can trust in the Lord who is in control.

The following evening, Pastor Mark shared about “How to be a healthy leader?” He pointed out the many leaders get too busy looking after their ministry they forget to look after themselves. In contrary, self-care must be the priority for leaders because the best gift you can give to your church is you being a healthy leader. He also gave us 5 pointers in order to become one.

1. Learn to retreat regularly; Jesus spent a lot of time with the people but He also has a habit of retreating Himself from the crowd. Matt 14:23. In ministry, there is so much to do, we need to learn to stop, to refresh and to seek the Lord, else we will not be able to make the distance.
2. Deal with you internal stress; it comes from unrealistic expectations, negative emotions and unsolved conflicts. Talk to another person and pray about it. James 5:16.
3. Keep growing; enhance your health and well-being. Excellence is the gradual result of always doing a little better. Attend a conference, join a bible school or read a book.
4. Develop emotionally replenishing friendships; develop friendship with people who will pour back to you. The degree of openness determines the degree of intimacy; hence we need to learn to be honest with each other.
5. Keep healthy and fit; Christian life is neither a 100m sprint, nor a marathon but a series of sprints. To keep fit is essential for a healthy ministry.

The conference ended with a session led by Pastor Matts Ola on Sunday morning. He spoke about being the salt and light of the world. Matt 5:16. In God there is goodness, so as believers the goodness naturally flows in us. However, we should not be good only on the inside but we must let it flow out of us in a thousand deeds.

In a nutshell, this conference was truly phenomenal and has indeed transformed many lives and embedded new visions in those who were present!

MF Humanitarian Missions 2010 Summary

Dear friends,

This year, the MF Humanitarian Missions has successfully sent out teams of more than 300 medical students and doctors to 10 countries all around Asia, namely Russia, China, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines.

We had the privilege of organizing mobile medical clinics for the locals who cannot afford medical treatment, providing them with basic medication required. Apart from that, we met the needs of the local poverty stricken families and provided social support for orphans simply through spending time with them. Besides that, we provided basic education programs for children, focusing mainly on teaching the English language. Also, we worked to improve sanitary conditions by educating villagers about the importance of basic hygiene. Wherever we could, we initiated community development projects to provide long lasting benefit to the locals.

Many of our volunteers had the opportunity to open their eyes to different cultures, allowing them to expand their horizons while enhancing their medical knowledge and practical skills. They built meaningful relationships not only with the villagers but with their fellow teammates as well, leaving them with an experience of a lifetime.

Thank you to all who made it happen. Your contributions - your participation, encouragement, contributions and prayers were all vital in making this year's missions a success. Thank you for believing in us and we hope that you will hop on board with us next year to continue bringing hope and changing lives!

After 6 long years of challenges, exams and sleepless nights, the 6^th year students of MMA and RSMU have finally graduated and earned the right to be titled a doctor! In appreciation of their dedication and hard work to building the Malaysian Fellowship here in Moscow, a Graduation Dinner 2010 was held to celebrate their success. Held in Darbar’s Indian Restaurant up on the 16^th floor of Sputnik Hotel, graduates and their parents arrived in their best outfits and a smile on their faces.

The guests were treated to an authentic Indian cuisine as they were entertained by the various song dedications that were made throughout the night. Among the dishes served - Samosa, Cheese and Mint Pakoda, Chicken Tikka, mouth watering Briyani rice, an assortment of curries, Naan breads and a free flow of drinks.

The guests were entertained by Billy and Yunn Min, singing a medley of well loved tunes in many languages! Yan and Alyssa, the emcees for the night, also lightened the atmosphere with some games, including a Football quiz, which saw the grand prize winner walk away with a football, sponsored by Emirates.

Miss Flora Iton encouraged the guests to dream big and make a change, as she sang the song ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ and her very own rendition of ‘Paradise’. Graduates Dr. Angeline and Dr. Herman came to the stage to share on how their experiences in Moscow and with the MF has changed their lives, leaving many of us in tears.

Amongst the many esteemed guests present were Pastor Sergei Martyunichev, Pastor Kevin Barner and his wife, Sandy. Emirates Moscow Representive, Mr. Sergei Perov was also present that night. Andrew then invited the Founding Director and graduate, Dr. Dalvinder Singh for a speech. His speech was short but moving, encouraging everyone to pursue their dreams and live life to its fullest.

After a video message featuring Pastor John Ollis, Pastor Matts Ola, Pastor Kevin Loo, and the rest of the MF juniors, all the graduates were invited to the front to receive certificates of appreciation and souvenirs. The evening concluded with a performance of the song ‘For Good’ dedicated to all the graduates. On behalf of the Malaysian Fellowship, we would like to wish the MMA and RSMU Graduating Class of 2010 a ‘Happy Graduation!’. All the best in your future undertakings. You have been an inspiration to us and you will be dearly missed.

10 Study Pointers

Dear friends,

Exam season is just around the corner! So many exams, but there is just too little time! I am sure we are finding it hard to pack all that information into our brains. We all know that here in Russia, that soon after all our credits,(zachyots) we will have too little time left to revise for finals!

Now, not all of us are blessed with speed reading skills or a photographic memory. I personally believe that the key to revising well is GOOD PLANNING. The bible speaks clearly about this in Luke 14:28-30.

28"Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? 29For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, 30 saying, 'This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.'

Start early.

Starting early obviously gives you more time to cover more material. It is said that ‘repetition is the mother of success!’ Starting earlier gives you the time to go over everything again once you’ve finished studying.

Don’t panic!

I know of people who immediately start to panic the moment they realize that they don’t have time to finish studying everything. In reality, you will never fully finish studying everything before an exam. Everyone else basically has the same amount of time as you do, so be calm. Panicking only disrupts your focus and wastes your time.

Divide and Conquer!

Say that you have 5 days before an exam. Break your study material into 5 equal chunks. Then slowly day by day cover what you have planned. You will definitely cover more material than you would without a plan.

Plan your time well, take breaks in between!

Studies show that optimal studying time is 45 minutes, with 15 minute breaks in between. On your 15 minute break, don’t get distracted by watching a movie or going online, but rather, just browse through what you’ve read over the past 45 minutes. Have a walk around, stretch, drink some water and then get ready to study the next part.

Understand, don’t memorize!

This is possibly the most important point I emphasize to those who ask me how I study. Understanding concepts allow you to answer all sorts of questions, no matter how they are twisted. Just like in math, once you understand how to perform a complex math equation, you are able to perform any similar equation even with different numbers.

Look out for key concepts, and important facts.

Certain things we learn are more important than others. I am sure that during class, teachers put emphasis on certain parts of your study material. If you need to, spend more time really grasping this, and practice and revise to get it right.

Make use of study tools

Mind maps, mnemonics, drawings, schemes and pictures with colour really do work. Some people don’t apply them because they think it just takes too much time to draw out a mind map. If you do have the time to spare, draw out mind maps, draw pictures to help you remember. They will help you retain information much longer.

Know yourself.

When studying, it is important to create the right atmosphere for you to study. Create the appropriate atmosphere for you to concentrate better. Remove distractions, use adequate lighting, play soothing music, study in the wee hours of the night. Know what is best for you!

Know your enemy.

Before going for the exams, ask your seniors about how the exam will be like. You want to know everything else there is to know. The exam format may include a certain compulsory question, or practical skill that you may need to perform for the examiner, so find out! Don’t be caught unprepared.

Go with God!

When you’ve done your best, just go with a prayerful heart and let God do the rest! :)

Special Meetings with Pastor Daniel Ho (Day 3 - 1st May 2010)

Last Sunday, 2nd of May 2010, we had 55 leaders and upcoming leaders attend the Leadership Meeting with Pastor Daniel Ho at Spartive study room.

We started the evening with a session of icebreaking lead by Marcus Chiang. The crowd were divided into 3 teams to get to know one another, after which representatives were selected and blindfolded. By asking a series of questions they were required to guess their which of their team mates were standing in front of them. Soon after the game ended, we were very fortunate to have with us once again, Pastor Daniel Ho enter the room and kick start the event.

Praise and worship was lead once again by Geng Yan and Billy, with Aaron on guitar and Yunn Min on the keyboard. God’s presence filled the room as the crowd sang in unison with all their hearts. For the first time, Yan, as the new leader of Spartive Hotspot, shared the offering message that night. Our money, which were like seeds, ought to be planted into good and fertile ground so that these seeds will grow and multiply! He then shared a testimony about a pledge amount of RM 3000 for the Winter Conference and how God returned RM 30 000 to his father through a business partner from many years ago!

Soon it was time for Pastor Daniel Ho to step up and speak to the leaders. First of all, he gave out a few copies of his book ‘The Dream Church’ to some of the members of the crowd. He had with him also one copy of DUMC’s 25th Anniversary Book which he gave to Herman. He then started to talk about ‘Christian Leadership’. As usual, he entertained the crowd with a plethora of jokes that left the crowd bursting at the seams. The main jist of his sermon was centered around 8Cs. The Call, The Commitment, The Cost, The Character, The Competence, The Courage, The Chemistry and The Consequence. Sharing testimonies from his own life, as well as biblical examples of great biblical leaders like Paul, he really taught us how to press on and serve God through the leadership responsibilities that have been entrusted to us!

The night ended on a high note as we prayed for Pastor Daniel and Aunty Doris, and enjoyed a scrumptious dinner of kung pow chicken and vegetables! As the 3 special meetings drew to a close we parted ways with a greater understanding of God and His Kingdom! All glory to God!

Special Meetings with Pastor Daniel Ho (Day 2 - 1st May 2010)

On the 1st of May, everyone once again made their way eagerly to Namiotkina Christian Centre to hear the remainder of Pastor Daniel Ho's powerful sermon regarding the importance of starting well and finishing well. A large crowd 0f people came to hear what Pastor Daniel still had to say. Clearly the message from the previous night left the crowd invigorated and craving for more of God's word.

The night's special meetings started on the dot at 7pm and the crowd was treated to a game of "Mafia" whereby the cooperation of everyone was of the utmost importance and secrecy was prerequisite in ensuring that the game went as planned. After the game, everyone was left in high spirits and not long after everyone settled down in their seats, a thunderous applause was made to usher the guest of honour himself, Pastor Daniel Ho and his wife Doris. He was truly a down to earth man who took time to shake hands with a few of us as he made his way to his seat.

Praise and worship lead by Geng Yan started without a moment's delay. The band made their own personal rendition of the night's songs and the crowd worshiped our good Lord with all their hearts. The night continued with a performance by Dre the Nomad and Ice. Sim E-Xing then proceeded to give a touching account of how God has changed his life here in Moscow!

The moment everyone was anticipating for finally came as Pastor Daniel Ho made his way to the stage. Pastor started off with a few heart warming jokes and quickly proceeded to his message 'Starting Well and Finishing Well Part 2'. As opposed to the previous night, Pastor used Joseph as his prime example instead of King Solomon. He started off with the story of Joseph being the apple of his father's eye among his many brothers and the slight foolishness of Joseph proclaiming his dream that his brothers will kowtow to him in Genesis 37:19-20. Pastor expounded on the fact even though it was good to have dreams, it is wise to be tactful when sharing them.

He continued preaching about the painful experience that Joseph had to endure when his brothers turned against him and sold him off. Even then so, Joseph harboured no bitterness towards them. Moreover Joseph was certainly a man of admirable trait despite being lured and seduced by Potiphar's wife, he showed no signs of weakness or succumbing to temptation (Genesis 39:6). Once thrown into prison, God's grace was forever by Joseph's side as he gained the approval of the prison warden(Genesis 39:23). Throughout his stay at the prison, Joseph spoke to the cup bearer and chief butler (Genesis 40:23). But to Joseph's dismay neither remembered his good deeds. When Joseph finally made his way out of prison and went on to became prime minister, humility never left him. He immediately pardoned all of the wrongs of his brothers especially after his father had passed away. Pastor Daniel stressed on the importance of how the tiniest of decisions impact our lives.

The Pastor then proceeded and shared his two cents regarding the 6 P's in life and how useful it is when we adhere to them. The 6 P's namely power, position, passion, pride, purse and practices. First and foremost he told us that power should not be misused, position should not be abused, passion should be channeled in the right way, we should be generous with our purse and our practices should be always be honourable especially in our later life.

Pastor also gave us a few guidelines on what to do when we are posted in places other than our hometowns. He told us to find a church and quickly settle down, to do our own personal quiet time, to remain connected with one another, to have a group that we can be accountable to, to not make comparisons with the church in Moscow and back in Malaysia, to draw boundaries in our work, to choose the right life partner, to be personal in our relationships with everyone around us and to seek to bear witness and transform.

The night ended with praise and worship and prayers for the leaders of MF who have held MF true to its form and valour throughout this time. A presentation of gifts were bequeathed to the leaders as a token of appreciation. At the end, the sweet smell of steaming nasi lemak were handed out to everyone with a cup of ice lemon tea. Cheerful laughter resonated in the corridors as everyone made their way back with satiated bellies and a night worth remembering that the best is yet to come.

Special Meetings with Pastor Daniel Ho (Day 1 - 30th April 2010)

On the 30th of April and 1st of May, 2010, the Malaysian Fellowship organized two special meetings with Pastor Daniel Ho. Pastor Daniel Ho is the Senior Pastor of one of the largest churches in Malaysia, Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC).

On the first day, an excited crowd of approximately 150 people from various hostels started gushing into Namiotkina Christian Centre at 6.30pm. The evening kicked off with an ice-breaking session led by the game master of the day, Marcus Chiang. This was then followed by a praise and worship session led by Geng Yan and his team. The team did a great job ushering us into God’s presence. We all had a wonderful time worshiping God. An offering message was then shared by Andrew Kok followed by a testimony by Livia. Then came the most anticipated session of the evening, the message shared by Pastor Daniel Ho.

The message was entitled, ‘The Importance of Starting Right and Finishing Well in Life, Part 1’. It was centered on the life of King Solomon. Even as a child, young Solomon knew the right decision to make as he asked God for wisdom over other things such as power and riches. Consequently, he became a king greater than his father. However, Pastor mentioned that success is no guarantee that one will finish well. King Solomon was the most successful king at that time but he was overwhelmed by his own success that he started to sin against God. Then and there, his kingdom started to fall apart. Pastor stressed that while success is good, it also has its challenges. As important as making the right decision is at the beginning, making the right choice throughout life to ensure one’s success is equally crucial. The congregation listened attentively to Pastor’s words throughout the session. It was indeed an impactful message.

After the message, it was time for food! We had our very own Malaysian ‘Ramli Burger’ in the house. The food and beverage team had done an outstanding job preparing the food. Everyone went home with not only a filled stomach but a hungry soul desiring for the more powerful message from Pastor the next day.

'Capture the Light' Photography Seminar

On the 24th of April, the Malaysian Fellowship held an event entitled ‘Capture the Light’, a talk given by our very own professional photographer - Sim Eih Xing. We started off with an interesting game of finding Yan’s name somewhere in the room using only our camera which was ultimately won by Marcus Chiang.

Following that, Sim took over the stage and introduced us to basic photography. We were brought to realization to things like simple functions on our cameras that we didn’t even know existed! After that, he gave us wonderful tips on how to take better pictures regardless of what type of camera we’re using, ranging from camera phones to DSLR’s. He even had samples of his own pictures to help us further understand, as after all, pictures speak a thousand words.

During refreshments, they even had 2 models posting for us so that we can test our photographing skills from what we’ve learnt and out of that, 3 winners were picked! At the end of it all, each one of us went back with new photography insights, feeling like a professional photographer. There were no regrets as it was definitely worth our time.

Easter Celebrations

3rd of April 2010 was a history-making day for us in Spartive hotspot as we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus, Easter day. Together with Yugo and Pushkin hotspots, we accommodated more than 85 people for the event. The event kicked off with 2 icebreaker games – The Easter Mascot and The Greatest Egg Artist. We were divided into 4 groups and had a wonderful time.

Next up, we had an amazing session of praise and worship led by Jayne, followed by the offering message by Herman. He encouraged us to give with purpose and a cheerful heart. After that, Sim shared his testimony of how God saved his life in a bombing attack recently and turned it into a blessing in his life.

Finally, the highlight of the night, Ps. Sergey from Word of Life Church was invited up to talk. He shared about “God and You”.

His message was very powerful yet animated. Everyone was so blessed by his words of wisdom.

Then, we were served with food packs containing delicious macaroni with Bolognese sauce and fruits prepared by Kelvin and crew. We got to know one another better as we mingled around and had a great time of fellowship. Before we ended, we celebrated Ps. Sergey’s birthday in advance and had lots of yummy cakes. Everyone had a great time and left with joy. All in all, we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus together as one in God’s family. Our God is alive!

Kahovs Hostel

Last Sunday was Easter, and Kahovs hotspot had a mini Easter celebration! The celebration started of with praise and worship lead by Julian. An offering message was then shared by Alex. A video clip regarding the portrayal of Jesus Christ in the modern world by City Harvest Singapore was featured! We all enjoyed the depiction of Christ' life in the 21st century, as the drama was very well rehearsed and entertaining! It helped us to bring the words of the Bible to life, and understand the true meaning of Easter. May Shi shared about how Jesus changed her life and encouraged everyone to allow Jesus to change their lives as well!

We then proceeded to feast on array of dishes prepared by all of us, namely tea leaf eggs in commemoration of Easter, potato salad, chicken cutlets, creamy chocolate cake and cold iced lemon tea. As we filled our bellies, we continued mingling among ourselves and even watched a movie. Fellowship ended approximately around 8.30pm. We all then helped cleaned up and made our way back respectively to our rooms with satiated bellies and a night worth remembering.

Kuzmin Hostel

On 3rd April 2010, in conjunction with Easter, we had a simple yet meaningful celebration. At 7pm, 20 people gathered to remember Christ's resurrection 3 days after He gave up His life for us so that we could have the gift of salvation, the most precious gift. The event started off with 2 Ice-breaker games: Flipping the Mat and Guessing the Sentence.

After that, we were lead into a time of praise and worship which was followed by a video featuring what Christ did for us on the cross. There was a moment of silence as everyone was touched. Marcus then came up to wrap up the video with a short sharing about the meaning of Easter and a closing prayer.

Then, we had refreshments: egg sandwiches, sparkling grape juice and caramel croissant pudding. Everyone had a good time of fellowship as we enjoyed the refreshments.

MF Missions Weekend 2010

M2 University Hostel

The MF missions weekend was carried out last weekend at various locations of hostels across Moscow, with the aim of introducing about the MF missions to all the medical students here in Moscow, and M2 students got the privilege to get some sneak preview of the missions as well. The event was held at RSMU hostel, 2nd floor from 4pm-6pm which started off with a game called, “Simon says…”, lead by Kugan, who definitely brought the crowd to their enthusiasm for the day.

Herman Jana Mulok took over the stage after that and started briefing us about MF missions for the past years and also showing us the vision for the coming years. Many of us were in awe when Derrick, Lowrance, and Livia, all of them who are in their second academic year, came up and shared great mission testimonies with us. Last but not least, the event ended with a prayer, and delicious Indian-vade and chocolate butter cake were then served to the crowd.

It was a catastrophic incident about 2 days ago with 2 suicide-bombing attacks in the metro. Indeed, we consider ourselves lucky enough to be alive today. Thus, what are you waiting for? Grab the chance to serve people, to bless other less fortunate people! Join the MF missions today!

Spartive Hostel

28th March 2010 was a much anticipated day for aspiring humanitarians in Spartive hostel as bright eager faces turned up at the meeting, wanting to hear miracles and adventures from previous mission trips. Following an ice-breaking session which was amazing, Herman shared his experiences from his previous mission trips. A known “veteran” in this field of work, attendees hung on to his words. He explained the aims of this project and encouraged everyone to join.

Lee Tjen Jhung, Eng Yaw, and Sin Li Jie who were also involved in the MF humanitarian missions last summer shared about their experiences as well. They shared about how their perception of life changed after the missions trip. As medical students, they were able to practice clinician skills, thus learning to be a better doctor who interacts and treats his patient as a whole individual, not just by his or her disease.

So, lets use our medical knowledge, our talents and abilities to help those in need. As the famous saying quotes, "Find a need, meet it. Find a hurt, heal it."

Kahovs Hostel

Last Sunday, more than 30 students got together in Kahovs hostel to participate in the Missions Weekend. The meeting started at 5pm and drew to a close at around 7pm. The general mood of the crowd was expectant as they took their places in the 5th floor study room waiting to listen to what was about to be shared. Herman and Tjen Jhung came all the way from Spartiv hostel to share some important information. The response of the crowd was good as they listened to testimonies from Herman, Tjen Jhung, Kimberley and Alyssa. The slideshow gave them a glimpse of what to expect during the upcoming Humanitarian Missions in August this year.

After the sharing, many people put up their hands to indicate their willingness to take part in this year's Missions. A small snack was then served and there were smiles all around as people got ready to leave. All in all, it was a great success and everyone was pleased.

Kuzminki Hostel

On 27th of March 2010, Kuzmin had our very 1st Missions Night. After the welcoming of our special guest: Dalvin, Herman, Andrew and Tjen Jhung, we had an ice-breaker which did not just break the ice but instead melted it! A ‘WOW’ start of the event was the ultimate grand launching by Dalvin and Herman using a custom made “hand-scanning” technology. We then sang 2 songs: Nothing is Impossible and Making a Difference to build up the atmosphere.

Following that was a powerful sharing by Herman and life-changing testimonies by Tjen Jhung, Gan Tsai Sheng and Charmaine which brought us to a better understanding of what missions is all about and its benefits. We were truly touched and encouraged to take the step of faith to step out of our comfort zone and reach out to the unreached. As the event was brought to a close, we had a wonderful time of enjoying the refreshments and fellowship with one another.

Women's Day Celebration

There was an air of anticipation amongst the girls from Spartive, Kahovs, Yugo and Pushkin hotspots as we received our invitations for this year’s Women’s Day celebration! The guys had been pretty tight-lipped about it, but we knew that they had something pretty amazing in store for us!

At about 7.30 pm on Monday night, the girls were ushered into a dimly lit, beautifully decorated Spartive study room! Great effort and detail had been put in to the decor of the room, from the folded paper hearts, potpourri leaves and candles to ambient music and mood lighting. Each girl had a designated seat, and we were escorted by guys dressed in suits and ties!

Events kicked off with an icebreaker game to lighten the mood, continued with an opening speech from Andrew, accompanied by a video. Shortly after, the girls were served with broccoli soup and bruchetta - toasted french bread topped with cheese and tomato; prepared by Mahes and Sim. The main course for the evening was ‘Balsamic Glazed Chicken’ prepared by Herman and a large serving of banana split was served for dessert!

Throughout the night, the boys took centre stage to perform for us, firstly with the song ‘For You I Will’, then ‘Qing Tien’ and later ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’. Tjen Jhung, the person in charge of the event, was co-emcee together with Yan.

At the end of the event, they creatively blanked out pictures of each girl and got us to guess which girl it was. Each girl was given titles like ‘Miss Vietnam’ or ‘Miss Sunshine’, saying a little about their character. It was fun guessing which girl was in the picture! The night ended with lots of photographs and smiles!

M2 Hotspot

It all first started off with a surprise Women’s Day celebration for the girls during morning prayer on Sunday. The guys took center stage and dedicated a medley of songs to the girls which include Beautiful Girl, Stand by Me and Ai Ai Ai. All the girls beamed with joy and were all-smiles when they saw what the guys were going to present to them, specially crafted hand-made paper roses and beautifully shaped chocolate roses in mini glass cups.

To top it all off, the guys melted the girls’ hearts by preparing a chocolate fondue which included a colourful variety of fruits and was topped with melting chocolate syrup and biscuit crumbs.

The guys also gave the girls in their respective zones a special celebration on Women’s Day itself. Zone A had a combined celebration on Sunday night, and the dress code was soft toy. The guys ushered a girl each into a beautifully decorated room. Events kicked-off with awards and games to lighten up the atmosphere followed by a video about a love story that starred most of the guys in the zone. The night continued with the guys serving the girls with a 3-course meal and ended with a photo session and laughter.

The guys from Zone B managed to create a very romantic atmosphere for the girls. Although the entire zone only comprises of five guys, they somehow managed to achieve a lot with so little manpower. The guys presented songs, a sketch and gifts to warm the hearts of the women in their zone. They also prepared their very own nasi lemak with Lowrence’s sambal specialty.

Zone C celebrated Women’s Day in various ways. In C1, the girls were told to wear evening dresses. This built up the anticipation amongst the girls. At 7:30pm, the guys escorted a girl each into a dimly lit room with soft music playing in the background. Words of fascination were whispered among the girls as they were too touched by the sweet gesture of the guys. A luxurious 3-course meal was served, and the girls enjoyed every single bite. The guys also presented songs, games and a dance to entertain the girls.

The C2 guys blindfolded and kidnapped the girls to a room with Tamil music playing in the background to scare the girls. Soon after, they served the girls with a delicious platter of dishes which include honey chicken, black pepper chicken, Eric’s specially marinated pork and many more. The guys from C3 also prepared games, various gifts and mouth-watering dishes to show their appreciation for the girls in their cell.

If you were to ask any girl from the M2 Hotspot about their thoughts on the Women’s Day celebration this year, you will receive a unanimous answer which is, “It was amazing!”

On behalf of the girls from M2, I would like to thank our strong and creative men for their thoughtfulness and all the effort that they have had put in to make Women’s Day such a memorable day for all of us. We are positive that our men will be able to accomplish even greater and mightier things for God in the future! Thank you men of M2!

Kuzmin Hotspot

8th of March, being Women’s Day, we knew the guys were up to something but what they came up with was unimaginably beyond our expectations. From the moment the invitation cards to the event called Ballroom Blitz were personally given to each and every one of us until the very last second of the event, we were all touched and amazed by all the efforts put into the beautiful decorations, setting of the table, romantic atmosphere, authentic dishes and meaningful videos, sketches and song performances.

At 7.30pm, we were individually escorted to our seats with honor and elegance. Served with dishes of fine dining standards – Garlic Bread & Cream of Mushroom Soup as appetizers; the main dish of Honey Glazed Sauteed Garlic Marinated Chicken Thigh, Stuffed Sausages Topped with Crisp Bacon & Buttered Mashed Potatoes Stuffed with Cheddar Cheese; dessert, Little Bites of Heaven which was the all time favourite Baskin Robbins Ice-Cream. It was indeed a very touching moment as we watched the video on appreciation speeches dedicated to every single one of us present and we felt truly blessed to have such wonderful, thoughtful and loving brothers in Christ.

It was indeed a memorable moment, which will always be cherished in our hearts. Thank you so much brothers of Kuzmin, for the most wonderful and touching Women's Day celebration ever. Thank you for all your thoughtfulness and love. It is such a blessing to have you as a part of this wonderful family of Kuzmin.

International Saline Solution Medical Conference

On the 27^th of February 2010, we were blessed with the chance to participate in the International Saline Solution Medical Conference organized by Agape, where many practicing Christian healthcare professionals shared their experiences with us. Among them were Alet Uittenbogaard, Dr. Bill Becknell, Dr. Darin Brink, Dr. Olga Polezhaeva and Dr. Larissa Pavlova. It was a great opportunity for us to learn about how we could impact our workplace by being the salt and light to share the love of Christ Jesus with patients and colleagues.

The conference started off with a brief introduction, a session of praise and worship and a video on the ministry of Agape. The entire course was based mainly on five questions:

1. Why is faith important in healthcare?

2. What are the opportunities and barriers to fulfilling God’s call?

3. What is my part?

4. What other tools will help me to cultivate and sow?

5. Where do I go from here?

As doctors, we should not only be concerned about the physical needs of the patient but the spiritual needs as well. In a report by World Health Organization (WHO), it was stated that we should be more concerned about the patient with the disease rather than what disease the patient has. We were also able to recognize the different barriers that may prevent us from being witnesses for Christ, overcoming them through the practice of social sensitivity, respect, and most importantly, by being good listeners.

Throughout the sessions, many different teaching methods were used, such as role playing and case studies. We were also given the opportunity to practice what we have learnt through small group activities. Furthermore, after each part, some time was allocated for us to voice out opinions, and even share life experiences! In between sessions, frequent breaks were given which were really useful for the tired to stretch their legs, drink coffee, munch biscuits and feel refreshed once again to continue the session.

As the session came to an end, Dr. Bill Becknell shared 7 Bible verses that we could use to help the unreached realize their need for Christ. Needless to say, everyone enjoyed themselves and thoroughly benefited from this conference.

Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner 2010

Spartive Hotspot

Once again, the lunar new year celebrations gripped the Spartive hostel. Held in the hostel study room, the celebrations kick-started at 6.30pm. First up, was an interesting and very interactive game involving only a bit of toilet roll, some brave people and a cheering crowd. Next up, we had the Emcee of the night, Mr. Yan lead the crowd in singing the traditional Chinese New Year Song “He Xin Nian”.

We also had an amazing sharing about the Chinese culture of giving angpow, but with a twist that would change the way we look at receiving and giving the red packets. And as with any good family, we had a wonderful true story told, about how our ancestors in ancient China practised customs and have their roots associated with the stories from the Bible.

And the highlight of the evening, the wonderful 9 course meal prepared by everyone of the hotspot CG members. We started with the Lou Sang, and followed with the homemade soup, Chinese BBQ Pork, Lemon Chicken, Fish, Squid, Vegetables, Spring Rolls and of course, Lychee Ice as dessert.

The night continued with a “yam seng” or cheers session and of course, a karaoke singing session. At the end of the day, the Spartive Hotspot not only celebrated Chinese New Year in a style fitting for an emperor, but we also truly experienced the feeling of having a family to celebrate with, here in Moscow.

Kahovs Hotspot

On the eve of Chinese New Year, three hostels namely Kahov, Pushkin and Yugo gathered to usher in the New Year. Fellowship began around 7.30pm. A simple ice breaking game organized by Alex Koh was first on the agenda. The winners got to have desserts which were limited in number. Everyone then gathered in a room to sing a classic Chinese New year song to brighten up the atmosphere. Andrew then proceeded with a short offering message. Since it was Chinese New year, offering was carried out a little differently. Our offerings were sealed and packed in traditional red packets called "ang paus".

Without further a due, everyone then proceeded to the hall to have dinner. Dinner was absolutely scrumptious. After saying grace, everyone joined forces in mixing and tossing the yee sang. The full ambience of Chinese New Year can still be felt despite being miles away from home. Fellowship ended approximately around 10.30pm. Everyone returned to their respective hostels cheerfully with satiated bellies.

Kuzmin Hotspot

Who says only families gather for reunion dinner on the eve of Chinese New Year? In Kuzmin Hotspot, 30 medical students gathered for a joyful yet fun Reunion Dinner that took place in a small cozy room decorated with creatively handmade ornaments. We started off with some games where participants stand a chance to taste the sensation of wasabi-filled sushi when the game wasn’t on their favour.

The atmosphere wouldn’t have been perfect without the singing of CNY songs, which was then accompanied by a few worship songs. Next up was the offering message where we were all encouraged in giving rather than the normal tradition of receiving ang pows. The message shared that night was simple but meaningful. Finally it was time to enjoy the 7 Course Dinner, which started out with Yee Sang. Indeed it was a memorable night of fellowship.

M2 Hotspot

This year, the Malaysian Fellowship M2 Hotspots had successfully organized the reunion dinner in order to celebrate the Chinese New Year in the respective zones of cell group. Among the activities held were the singing of Chinese New Year songs and games. The sharing of the word of God had also been preached by the respective leaders during the celebration. And of course, there were scrumptious food to fill our hungry stomachs on that day as well.
Although we cannot celebrate this wonderful festival with our families back home, yet, we've got each other here in the Malaysian Fellowship, to support one another and to treat one another as a part of the family here in Moscow. And there's nothing better than to have the traditional reunion dinner with our family, true? Happy Chinese New Year!

Winter Conference 2010

During the span of the winter holidays, much toil and sweat have been put in order to make this Winter Conference a reality and a truly memorable one. The catch phrase "Change Begins With Me" coined for this Winter Conference 2010 (5th Feb-7th Feb) could not have been any better. Change truly begins with oneself especially in the field of medicine whereby the bulk of the medical career entails us to reach out to those who are less fortunate.

We realised that before we can actually do that, much is required from us first. Therefore the Winter Conference which was held in Renaissance Hotel for the first two days mainly consisted of talks and workshops not only aimed at honing our clinical skills but also in various aspects as well such as leadership, media and worship.

The first session was conducted by Pastor Kevin Loo himself, a truly down to earth man with the fastest growing church in Malaysia. Pastor Kevin heads CHC KL and has an average attendance of about 2000 members. The man himself imparted words of wisdom and encouragement with a powerful sermon noting how important change can be and that the word of God triggers change to empower us to not only become normal doctors but spiritual doctors that not only bring the medicine but also hope to the downcasted and the broken hearted. We as doctors merely provide the medicine but it is only God that provides the cure. As a whole, Pastor Kevin stressed that he wanted MF to not only be empowered as a strong family, but also to be deeply rooted in God and to be the light and salt of the world. The night ended with the sweets croons of praise and worship by the highly acclaimed CHC band all the way from KL.

The second day of the Winter Conference 2010 was a full blown 13 hour session that included a much anticipated message by Pastor Matts Ola, a highly revered and respected pastor that commands a large following of Russian Christians in Moscow. His church popularly goes by the Russian name of Slava Zhizny which literally means Word of Life. There was also a talk conducted by Dr Shan Ong himself who is one of the top pediatricians specializing in child developmentin Sydney, Australia. He was there to talk about highly acquired medical skills and advice to us aspiring doctors. Last but not least, Dalvinder Singh who is the founding director of the Moscow Malaysian Fellowship and also in his final year also imparted much wisdom to us as he delivered tips on leadership skills and people management.

The CHC band also took part in organizing a workshop regarding praise and worship. They spoke about the dos and don’ts of creating an atmosphere that invites the presence of God.

The highlight of the event was Ms Jaclyn Victor herself. The first ever Malaysian Idol and a currently well established singer and recording artist with 3 albums to boot. A true superstar with undeniably raw talent and an incredibly amazing voice, she was there to serenade us for the span of three days of the conference. She left no one in the room doubting her triumphant reign six years ago. Not only that, Ms Jaclyn herself is extremely down to earth and with her bubbly personality, she is indeed an idol to many of our hearts. Not a dry eye was left in the hall as she displayed her impressive vocal range and soulful voice. Cheers were heard all around as she performed the song that won her the Malaysian Idol, Gemilang. As strains of the familiar melody floated through the hall, the crowd went into rapturous delight and cheered wildly. The atmosphere at that time was stunning.

Moreover, the all girl band "Free to Fall" was also there. Nothing screams louder than girl power for this band of extremely young and talented girls rocking out in electric guitars and drums. They have been featured in Channel V and was the winner of Malaysian Revival Songwriting Competition (MRSC) in Dec 2008. Other groups were also present to showcase their talent and to entertain the night, "Street Temple" a hip hop dance group by a group of four Russians and "Saved" a pop dance team were there to wowed us with their impeccable dance choreography.

The last day of the conference took place at the Word of Life Church. Pastor Matts Ola led the final session. In total there were 5 sessions. Jacyln Victor took the stage once more and delivered yet another trademark stunning performance. The congregation rose to their feet and gave her a standing ovation as the last few notes reverbrated around the hall. After yet another inspiring talk by Ps. Matts-Ola, the curtain came down on what was truly an amazing conference. As the last few guests trickled out the front door, it was obvious by the look on everyone's faces that it was truly a memorable experience and worth while indeed.

Medical Lecture by Dr. Shan Ong

On the 4th of February 2010, we had the privilege of having Dr. Shan Ong, a Consultant Pediatrician, specializing in Child Development from Sydney, Australia come to speak to us! He uses his medical skills to help the underprivileged in many parts of the world. He is also member of Hillsong Church, Sydney.

The title of his lecture was 'Early Developmental Warning Signs in Infants and Young Children.' He spoke at the RSMU Lecture Hall to about 100 medical students from RSMU and MMA that cold Thursday morning. He spoke about disorders Autism and ADHD. His lecture was concise, interesting and informative, getting the attention of all students despite some of them being only in their first years of medical school.

All in all, we learnt alot about childhood developmental disorders, and students were yearning to learn more, so they asked alot of interesting questions too! We were all blessed to have such a great doctor and Man of God sharing with us that day. His life and career is an inspiration and example to us all!

Medical Relief to Haiti (Report)

On 12th January 2010, a magnitude-7.0 earthquake devastated the capital of Haiti, affecting the lives of more than 2 million people. An estimated 200,000 are believed to be dead, hundreds of thousands injured, and over a million people left homeless.

Upon receiving a call to volunteer to help the needy people of Haiti, Dalvin and I immediately decided to seize the opportunity to lend a helping hand to those who were affected by the catastrophe. With just a few days to prepare, and with the help of our team, we packed whatever supplies we could get our hands on and embarked on a mission to bring aid and relief to the Haitian people.

On 25th January 2010, we departed from Moscow and joined the City Care Team 3 in Paris before flying 9 hours to Santo Domingo and taking an 8 hour bus ride, past the border into the town of Carrefour, Haiti. With all the TV coverage and vast photos and videos on the internet, it still could not prepare us for what we saw with our own eyes, heard with our own ears, smelt with our own noses or felt with our own hearts upon entering the quake-struck country. The stench of death greeted our senses, houses and all kinds of buildings were reduced to rubble, thousands of people living in makeshift tents in the open fields or streets, children crying and signs were planted all over the city with the words: We need help, food and water. Children and adults who lost their families adopted one another. With each passing vehicle with foreign people, the eyes of the Hatians glimmered with hope amidst all the despair. It was indeed a sight that could break ever person’s heart.

Upon arrival in the afternoon, we immediately checked into base camp. After a short briefing by our team leader, we started work straight away, attending to the injured and the sick. With a total of 3 doctors, 2 nurses, 2 relief workers and 2 medical students, our team linked up with a group of American firefighters and local volunteers to care for the people in the surrounding area.

We worked everyday from 8 am to 6 pm at our medical facility located in a theatre with an average of 300 people per day lining up to receive treatment. Cases ranged from dehydrated babies, wound infections, lacerations, fractures, hip dislocations, gun shot wounds to the common cold. There was even a boy who lined up the whole day just to come in to request for a bottle of water. On day 1 itself, Dalvin and the group of firefighters successfully rescued an abandoned man on the street, wounded, dehydrated and left to die. The team also visited and cared for orphans who lost their parents in the earthquake. They were all left homeless and had to live in the open as they had to place to go to. In the course of our few days there, we managed to set up a 2nd mobile medical clinic a few blocks away where there was a great need for medication and treatment. Individuals in the area who could not travel far flocked to the mobile clinic for the necessary care. In total, our team managed to meet the medical needs of more than 1,700 people.

This trip with City Care was very rewarding as we learned so much about life in just a span of 10 days. Just when we thought that we were there to be a blessing to the people, we instead were even more blessed by them as they taught us life lessons we would never forget. Their resilience and their ability to move on with life really proved to us that losses or failures are never fatal. The things we saw and experienced also really taught us to truly value the things in life and to count our blessings. The Haitian volunteers, many of whom suffered great losses, taught us character as they worked hard and selflessly helped in the tedious setting up, security, drug arrangements and translation.

On Sunday, we attended a church service in Haiti and we were amazed to see the people rejoice in God in the midst of suffering. It was evidence that even when you have lost everything and have nothing, Jesus really is more than enough for you. I think it was best said by a writing on one of the walls of the house we stayed in: “It doesn’t matter where you’re planted because it depends on how you respond to the nourishing. The poorest of poor spots can bring the sweetest of sweet fruits.”

This mission trip to Haiti has really been an eye opening experience for the both of us and we are very thankful to God. We also thank all of you who have prayed and supported us throughout this period of time. Indeed, God can really exceed all our expectations!

Students join team to provide medical care for quake victims

PETALING JAYA: Two Malaysian medical students have been deployed to Haiti to offer help to the earthquake victims.

Dalvinder Singh Harinder Singh and Herman Jana Mulok, who are final-year medical students at the Moscow Medical Academy, are part of a team assembled by non-profit organisation CityCare that arrived yesterday.

When contacted, Dalvinder and Herman, both 24, said they could not “just sit down and do nothing” when they saw the catastrophe in Haiti, following the earthquake on Jan 12.

“When this opportunity arose, we volunteered to assist in providing medical care and meet the needs of the Haitian people. We just want to do our best to bring hope and change lives,” said Herman.

CityCare manager Chang Mui Lin said the team was led by its chief executive officer David Oh.

Chang added the organisation decided to send the team to Haiti after they were informed that there was enough medical supplies but insufficient medical personnel to administer them.

“When such large scale tragedies occur, Western countries are usually the first to come forward and offer help even though they strike in far away countries, like in the Padang earthquake.

“So even though Haiti is far from Malaysia, we want to follow that example and contribute as much as possible,” she said.

Chang said the organisation planned to send three more teams on Friday, Feb 3 and Feb 8 respectively and was currently seeking volunteers to be part of the teams.

Each team would spend 10 days in Haiti to deliver medical aid.

Dear MF Family & Friends,

Warm greetings to you all and we hope you're having a good time during your winter holidays to rest and prepare for another semester. As you might be aware, the recent earthquake in Haiti has devastated the country leaving about 200,000 dead, and many more injured and homeless.

During this moment of great need, we thank God for the opportunity for us to be able to do something to help and bless the people of Haiti. As such, the MF will be partnering together with City Care (City Harvest Church) to provide medical relief to the earthquake victims in Haiti. Dalvin & Herman will be working together with surgeons and doctors in Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince from (26.01.2010 - 3.02.2010) to provide medical care.

We would like to invite you to pray for them and the CityCare team during this mission trip so that they can truly be a blessing to the people of Haiti. Lets also pray for God's protection and strength to be with them as they work long hours daily to meet the needs of the people. Vision 2010

Blessed New Year 2010!

Held in Namiotkina Hall on the 1st of Jan 2010, Vision 2010 was held to usher in the new year! The hall was packed with about 150 people squeezed into a hall beautifully decorated in white and gold. We started at 6pm to an amazing session of praise and worship lead by Billy and Geng Yan! We sang 'Tell The World', 'Nothing is Impossible', 'Because of You' and 'Beautiful'. After praise and worship, Herman lead us in a word of prayer to usher in the new year, and then it was offering time. :) He shared that giving to God is like planting seeds in God's field, and in time we will reap the harvest.

After that, Andrew and Isaac prepared a game for us! Poison box- pass the box and if it stops at you, pick a note from it and follow the instructions. A few had to be punished, but many walked away with huge gifts! Next, we watched the amazing Winter Conference video and heard about why no one should miss it!

Angeline and Than Yun came up to share testimonies about how God has changed their lives in Moscow, through serving in the Malaysian Fellowship. God has made them more influential, more bold and more confident! Then, we had Dalvin share to us about how the Malaysian Fellowship has grown in the past year! Then Andrew came up to share about how our visions should be. 3 values that we need to have incorporated into our vision: Commitment, Resources and Strategy. In the end he mentioned how it ties in so well with the Vision of the Malaysian Fellowship. He then shared about what would be coming up in the future for MF.

Then it was time to pen down our goals for the year. One by one, our leaders came front to encourage us and challenge us, as we filled in our visions for the new year! Once we were done, we prayed over our cards and surrendered everything to God, that he would exceed our expectations through out the year!

At the end of the event, it was time for dinner, with hot dogs and drinks, and fellowship time between M1 and M2. :) It was really a great night! God bless everyone of you! Blessed New Year 2010, and as we say, The Best Is Yet To Come!

Christmas High-Tea 2009

The 26th of December was the night of the Christmas High-Tea 2009, the biggest Christmas party of the year! 250 people including our guests of honor, Pastor Kevin and Sandy Barner with their son Blake, gathered at the beautifully decorated and lighted Slovo Zhizni Foyer for an amazing night of joy and merriment. The evening kicked off with an opening dance from the Tourism Malaysia Dance Troupe, beautifully dressed in their traditional costumes.

Pastor Kevin’s speech reminded us about how Christmas is a time of giving spent with our family and closest friends. He told us to enjoy each other’s company and have fun! And we most certainly did! After Pastor Kevin’s speech and an opening video, the food was served. The menu was certainly very impressive: a free flow of curry and salad as starters, spaghetti and chicken as the main course, and 7 types of desert -cheese cake, chocolate cake, jelly, fruits, tarts just to name a few. Drinks of course, were a given.

Ms. Sarah Pang sang the song ‘Only Hope’ angelically, bringing the crowd to a pin drop silence. Following was the Malaysian Fellowship Christmas Choir, bringing to us a medley of well loved Chistmas carols! After that, we had the Tourism Malaysia Dance troupe come out for another round of Malaysian dance, giving everyone of us a feel of home.

After a few games, a surprise acoustic performance by Blake and the Best Dressed of Christmas High-Tea 2009 awarded, we had Andrew share about Christmas! He told the crowd about how he always wondered about why Santa Claus was so happy all the time! He came to the realization that Santa was always happy because Santa felt more joy in giving than receiving. The event ended on a high note with a closing song ‘Giving this Christmas away!’

There was still plenty of food, fun and DANCING after the party, as people lingered around to enjoy the atmosphere! :) It was truly an awesome time as we celebrated the birthday of Jesus Christ! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all

M2's Christmas In Da House

There is no doubt that Christmas is among the greatest religious holidays in the Western world. Actually the majority of people consider it to be the most highly anticipated and marketed one. As you probably know, the name of the holiday means 'Christ's Mass' and it is surely the most important holiday in Christian's calendar as it commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ. According to the Hebrew Old Testament Christ was the saviour of the Jews.

Even though the exact date of the birth of Christ is not known for certain, Christmas is annually celebrated on the 25th of December. All the people around the world celebrate Christmas in different ways and this year, the Malaysian Fellowship M2 Hotspot threw a tremendous Christmas party to celebrate the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ at Natmiotkina on the 18^th of December from 8.30pm until 11.30pm. We had a lot of fun at the party with all those amazing performances and Christmas caroling and not to forget mouth watering food we had during the party. Spaghetti bolognaise, grill chicken, fresh coleslaw, handmade cheese stick, and last but not least, we had chocolate cake for dessert! Apart from that,we had a gift-exchange section where all of us were able to express our love among ourselves by giving.

But of course,how can there be Christmas without knowing the true meaning of it? Pastor Kevin Barner from ICA,was there to share with us the meaning of Christmas and it was great! Everyone went back home with happiness,hope,and joy. Merry Christmas everybody!

Medical Missions in Moscow 2009

This year, the Malaysian Fellowship assisted volunteers from Agape Medical Centre to reach out to the community in Moscow by setting up a mobile medical clinic in the Resurrection Church Moscow for the impoverished and former drug abusers.

Free medical health checks, non-prescription medication and consultation were provided. It was also a good opportunity for us to enhance our medical skills for future missions as we worked under the guidance of 3 medical specialists. Close to 50 lives were blessed that day as their needs were met and we were even more blessed with the privilege of serving them. It is indeed our desire to continue to bless the needy whenever and wherever we can, and most of all, we want to make the love of Jesus famous!

Rani Sebastian Healing Services at Word Of Life, Moscow

On the 18th and 19th of November, the Word of Life Moscow held 2 Healing Services featuring Malaysian healing evangelist Ps.Rani Sebastian. 50 of us attended her services over the weekdays despite classes and cold Russian weather. On both days, the hall was fully packed till many were seated on the aisles!

Many came looking to be healed through an encounter with God. She was an eloquent story teller, with testimonies of many miracles that she had witnessed since being saved when she was 42. Now at a young age of 74, she tells of her travels all around the world, and how God put a burden in her heart for Russia, China and Israel.

In the end she talked about the woman with the issue of blood. Many times, being sick for even a day leaves us lying in bed being unable to do anything. Despite being physically ill for 12 years, this woman had made up her mind to meet Jesus. She had no doubt that simply by touching his robe she would be healed. In the end, her faith had healed her. Then Ps. Rani called out various diseases and ailments that were afflicting the congregation, and she renounced it in Jesus' name. Over the 2 days, more than 80 people had experienced an instant and miraculous healing, and they went forth to testify. Pains were relieved, tumours disappeared, the lame could walk and even hop! Hallelujah!! Many also responded to the altar call.

I really thank God for opening my eyes to His miracles, which don't only happen in the Bible, but still happen to this day! For our God is a living God!

Combined Fellowship with Pastor Sergei @ Spartiv Hotspot

Last Saturday, a combined fellowship meeting was held at the Spartive Hotspot with Pastor Sergei from the World of Life Church as the guest speaker.We started off with an ice breaking session; Tjen Jhung introduced a game to the crowd called The Human Maze. Two people were chosen from the crowd; one of them would become the ‘cat’ and the other the ‘mouse’. The rest of the crowd formed the human maze with their hands lifted up in different directions. The people forming the human maze followed the instructions of Tjen Jhung to move in different directions while the ‘cat’ would try to catch the ‘mouse’.

After that, Geng Yan and his team led us into a time of praise and worship. The presence of God was strong in that room that night as everyone worshiped Him in one spirit. Herman then came up to share a powerful offering message about “Money”. He talked about how money takes on human’s characters, that a stingy person’s money would be called stingy money; a drug trafficker’s money would be called drug money while money earned by donating one’s blood would hence be known as the blood money! We also watched the video on the Youth’11Conference that was held in the Word of Life Church.

Pastor Sergei then shared his message about Faith. He brought our attention to the Heroes of Faith as said in Hebrews 11: Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham and Sarah. What can we give to God? We have much more to give than our money. We can give ourselves, our time. He also mentioned 3 points on how we can fellowship with God: Prayer, Bible Reading, Church Ministry. Prayer is when we speak to God and Bible reading is when God speaks to us. Often times, God’s better is not necessarily better in man's eyes. In obedience, we need to aim for the better. To desire for the better means to be obedient and leave our comfort zone. By faith Sarah herself also conceived despite being barren. If Sarah could believe that God can do the miracle, then we too can believe that God can do the same for us as well. Occasionally, Pastor Sergei would just crack us up with his wittiness and rich gestures that made his sharing a whole lot more interesting. No doubt, his sharing touched many lives that night.

After the message was a time of fellowship and food. On the menu was scrumptious Kung Pao Chicken with rice and free flow of drinks. The night ended eventually and I have to say that it was truly an awesome night to remember as we learnt more about God and His wonders. It was even more enjoyable to be able to meet with brothers and sisters from different hotspots.

Report on the YOUTH'11 CONFERENCE

From 28th October to 1st November 2009, the Youth'11 Conference was held at Word of Life Church here in Moscow. The Conference, which was the biggest, coolest and most happening youth conference held in Russia drew thousands of youth from more than 200 cities from all over the region. It featured powerful and anointed speakers such as Ps. Matts-Ola, Ps. Joakim Lundqvist, Ps. Oleg Papov, Pastor Sergey Martiunichev, Ps. Alexey Romanov and our very own Dalvinder SIngh. The conference was also hyped up by performances by Nuteki, Simple Stuff, Teen Angles, Saved, Pumkin Blues, MC Paul, MC Oliga, just to name a few.

The Malaysians who attended were really blessed as they encountered God mightily and were impacted by the word of God. Many left touched and empowered by the incredible presence of God.

Ps Joakim Lundqvist, the director of Word of Life Bible Centre and leader of the student organisation New Generation in Sweden,preached on opening night to a full house! He challenged us to be all the more passionate for our King of kings and taught us the ‘Art of Lifting a Siege’. He opened our eyes to how God could multiply the initiatives of unexpected people who thought of others to help change and free the lives around them.

On the second day, Ps. Joakim taught about excellence and how we qualified to be 10 times better! Like Daniel and his 3 friends, we are all called to be the best at what we do. The idea is not to compete with others but to be the best we can and should be!

Our very own leader, Dalvin took to the pulpit on Friday and shared from God’s heart on how to enlarge our vision, to see and grasp what God could do through one person who was willing to lay it all down for God. The youth were immensely impacted and hundreds poured forward to avail themselves for God, praying and committing themselves to God’s dream for their lives.

The conference wrapped up on Saturday night as Ps. Matts-Ola shared on communion and the importance of remembering. He revealed how God waited and fervently desired to have communion with us and how remembering what happened 2000 years ago prepared the setting for a powerful encounter at God’s table.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to WOL Moscow for inviting us to the conference. This conference has changed my life and would really encourage all of you to seize the next opportunity that comes along your way. For those of you who missed it, don’t hesitate anymore. Dear friends! This 28th October to 1st November, there will be the Youth'11 Conference to be held in Word Of Life Moscow!

This annual youth conference brings together thousands of youth and youth pastors from over 200 cities all over Russia. Join us, as we come together to have fellowship and an encounter with God. It promises to be a time to renew visions, to answer God's call to serve, and to recieve revelation!

Last Saturday evening was a special one for the Malaysian Fellowship, as we had Rev. John Ollis of Hillsongs Australia minister to all of us here in Moscow. The Namyotkina Christian Centre hall was jam packed, and events kicked off at 6.30pm to an electrifying praise and worship lead by Geng Yan, accompanied by disco lights and smoke machines.

After praise and worship, it was time to announce the best dressed guy and girl who each walked away with chocolates! Then the new students were given a goodie bag with the limited edition MF pen and a small gift! Soon, the 'Malaysian Fellowship story' video was unveiled! It was an amazing video detailing how far we've come since the days we started 2 and a half years ago. After that, Dalvin came up to the mic to announce his successor, and the board of directors who will take over leadership of the Malaysian Fellowship. Andrew, and his team of 5 other directors were prayed over by Rev. John Ollis.

The offering message was shared by Eric, who likened our money to seeds. Keeping money in our hands means that the money will stay as seeds, and it will never multiply. Likewise if you sow these seeds into God's kingdom, he will make them grow! If you think you need more money, give, and give into God's kingdom, that you may reap more.

Then, the moment we had all been waiting for, our guest speaker, Rev. John Ollis came up to share his message. He mentioned that out of the many messages he had wanted to preach, God finally put into his heart to preach this. Rev. John Ollis spoke about the covenant. The word 'covenant' is rarely used in day to day speech, but one covenant we frequently hear of is the marriage covenant. It is more than a promise, but it is an obligation. He told the story of David and Jonathan, whom he said after forming a covenant slit their wrists and put the cuts together to let the blood mingle. When Jonathan died, David took care of Mephibosheth, Jonathan's son, because of the covenant they had shared. In the same way, when Jesus came to this earth, every whip and cut Jesus received on his body was a covenant made with us, now Jesus is obligated to us. He has promised to be our provider, our peace, our healer, our shepherd, our righteousness, our sanctifier and to always be there. What is our obligation to Him? Rev. John Ollis challenged us to draw near to Him and to live a better life. Many responded to his message and were prayed over. I believe many of us were changed that night.

After the message was a round of games, and then we had food! Hotdogs, pizzas and other foods were on the menu. Everyone went back with filled stomachs, a filled spirit and a smile on their faces. Praise God!

Leadership Meeting with Pastor John Ollis

After a long tiring day of classes, many of us were looking forward to the Leadership Meeting with Pastor John Ollis! Truly the best place to have been on a Friday night! At 7.30pm, we started with prayer, and then lead into his presence with Geng Yan and the worship team! That night’s worship experience was especially special, as this would be the first time we were using our new speakers and soundboard. Praise God that he provides for us!

Hailing all the way from Volgograd, we had with us Kelvin and Xun Jin of the Jesus Embassy. It was great to hear and see from pictures what God has been doing all around Russia. Kelvin shared about how God has been guiding their steps and working amazingly amongst the foreign students in Volgograd, even enabling them to reach out to surrounding Russian cities, amongst other event reaching out to students within their own city.

Herman’s offering message was simple yet powerful. Herman likened our giving to a teaspoon. If we sow a teaspoon’s worth into God’s kingdom, God will return to us 30 fold, 60 fold or 100 fold of teaspoons. But what if we gave a spade? Or better yet, a BULLDOZER? In the bible it says, “For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Finally it came time for our spiritual daddy to speak! Pastor John Ollis, having celebrated his 58 birthday as a Christian recently has been doing extensive ministry in Asia, and refers to himself a ‘guai lou’ on the outside but yellow and Asian on the inside. We quickly warmed up to him and we cut straight to the chase.

He spoke about laying strong foundations. When dealing with problems, work on the root of the problem, and not its symptoms. When God came down in the form of a man, he came to deal with our sinful nature, all parts of it - body, soul and spirit. In order for us to walk closely with God we need to learn to understand ourselves and require someone to walk closely with us, someone to be accountable to. Tie yourself to the horns of the altar (Psalms 118:27) and surrender, because when you run away from the altar, all sinful natures come back. He then gave us handouts in order to assess our spiritual life.

At the end of his message, he lead everyone into a time of prayer, a prayer of confession and renounciation, so that we will be able to break away from the pains and hurts that have such a deep hold on us. Many also responded to his call for those who wanted to recieve the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

The night ended with some refreshments and everyone went home blessed!

Mid Autumn Festival Celebration @ M2 Hotspot

On the 3^rd of October, M2 Hotspot held a Mid Autumn Festival party in our very own Dom 39. We were able to fit in slightly more than 100 visitors that evening and the rest was history.

The event kicked off at 5pm sharp with an awesome time of praise and worship. The band which displayed some familiar faces like Billy and Yunn Min hyped up the atmosphere like never before. With songs like “Blessed Be Your Name” and “Hiding Place”, it seemed effortless for them to get the crowd wanting more.

The evening went on with the game master, Jivan, introducing some wacky ice-breaking games. It gave the crowd a chance to get to know the people around them and to loosen up. There was no surprise as to why we had a really loud and enthusiastic crowd that evening.

Then we had a short offering message and followed by Eric’s message on the famous “Sermon On The Mount”. It was a thoroughly inspiring message which surely touched some hearts.

Next, of course, came the time for food and fellowship. As the crowd was big, we separated them into 3 zones, each led by a cell group leader. It was important to make sure that amidst having fun, we also want to expand the kingdom of the Lord through this time of fellowship. We served some very appetising food like curry chicken, rice, honey chicken and spaghetti soon after everyone was seated in circles. And of course, not forgetting the mouth-watering, homemade mooncakes prepared by Katherine Goh and the team. We wrapped up the whole evening around 10pm after singing a few songs and guessing a few lantern riddles.

All in all, this event provided us with a great opportunity to reach out to the new students who probably would have been longing for a sense of belonging and also, to spread the good news of our Lord to them. Have a happy Mid Autumn Festival from all of us here in M2!

In 2007, my wife Sun released a music video of the hit single “China Wine,” the result of a creative collaboration with reggae wunderkind, Wyclef Jean. That video garnered a lot of attention on YouTube with more than two million hits over two dozen fan sites. It received rave reviews from industry insiders as well as youths who love dance pop the world over. Not surprisingly, the video also raised quite a few eyebrows within the religious fraternity who felt it was inappropriate for a Christian to be featured in a dance video.

First MF Meetings for 2009-2010!

At Spartiv Hotspot, the first combined fellowship meeting was held on 5^th September 2009. At 7pm, people began to fill the study room. The whole study room turned into a gathering place filled with laughter, the atmosphere was extremely joyous. Kelvin started the fellowship with a simple ice-breaking game. The game was hilarious, fun and even challenging as it goes around faster.

Geng Yan then led everyone into a time of praise and worship. The presence of God was so strong that no doubt, we all were into the heart of worship, lifting the Name of the Almighty God of the universe. Hosanna!

Next, Tjen Jhung shared about how God had powerfully worked in his mission’s trip in Indonesia. He showed some photos as well as a video of a lady who was paralyzed and was healed not by medication but through faith in Christ! Even for us as medical students, we can only go so far. Yet, with God all things are possible, nothing is impossible!

Andrew then led us into a time of offering and thanksgiving. The Bible talks about giving more than anything else. Jesus came to serve and not to be served. We can give without loving but never love without giving.

Time for spiritual food! Herman shared in depth about spiritual atmosphere. It was such an eye-opening moment to realize the importance of atmosphere. When the Spirit of God comes, He brings a special presence-spiritual atmosphere; this was exactly how we felt throughout the fellowship. We can build the spiritual atmosphere.

During altar call, many responded to His calling and stepped forward, eager to be prayed for by our leaders. The presence of God was so strong that night and many shed tears, touched by God’s amazing love.

The meeting ended with slurpy delicious food prepared by Siew Chin and her team. The fellowship over enjoying the meal together, chatting with each other, everyone was truly blessed. We also celebrated the birthdays of the September “babies”!

It is indeed a greatly blessed evening for all who attended!

On the same day, Kahov Hotspot and Kuzminki Hotspot also had a combined fellowship meeting cum picnic at the Kuzminki Park. About 20 people gathered at 6pm at the Kuzminki metro station and together we headed to the park. We gathered at an empty spot among the trees in the park.

The meeting started of with Praise and Worship led by May Shi with Julian playing the guitar. Ice-breaker came next. We were divided into 2 groups and we played the game of forming the longest line at the fastest speed with whatever we had. Team 1 won the game.

After that was a time of sharing. May Shi shared on Psalms 84. She shared about the kind of young people God would want to use to serve Him. Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”

The meeting ended with food. Kuzminki Hotspot brought sandwiches and drinks, while Kahov Hotspot brought grapes and authentic mushrooms. Everyone had a great time of fellowship and catching up with one another especially after the long summer holidays.

Fellowship Of Doctor's Conference 2009

The Fellowship of Doctor’s Conference (FODC) was held on the 20th and 21st August at the Parkroyal Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. It was the first time that 90 medical students and doctors from 8 medical universities, namely Moscow Medical Academy, Russian State Medical University, Volgograd State Medical University, Kursk State Medical University, Crimea State Medical University, University of Glasgow, Memorial University in Canada and last but not least, International Medical University in Malaysia came together for such an event.

After getting settled down in our rooms, we began the first session with praise and worship. The first session was conducted by Keith Tay, Vice President of City Harvest KL. Titled ‘Making a Difference in Our Society’, Keith’s message challenged us to be the salt of the earth and light of the world. His main point was this :

Divine empowerment is based upon my ACCEPTANCE OF RESPONSIBILITY that God has called me to do. To accept responsibility is to decide to be a problem solver.

Session 2 and 3 was titled ‘The Caring System’. This session tells about effective evangelism- how reach out to people and bring them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Throughout these 2 sessions, something that really stood out to me was when Keith mentioned that people experiencing a period of transition will be more open to God’s love. Therefore, this would be the best time to offer a helping hand, or to just be a shoulder to cry on. The key to success of the Caring System is to match responses to needs that arise.

After a break for dinner and fellowship, we resumed with a night rally! The City Harvest Band really ushered in the presence of God with their amazing praise and worship session. It was a great honor to have Rev. Kevin Loo, President and Senior Pastor of City Harvest KL to come and share a few words with us. His message titled ‘Building A Strong People’ spoke to many of us.

3 Keys to become a strong people.

Be relevant.
Be selfless.
Be wise.

After he spoke, he prayed for many of us, imparting words of wisdom into our lives. Indeed many were touched that night, and went back to their rooms as different people.

The next morning, all of us woke up bright and early to have a session of morning devotion with our honoured guest. After prayer and spending time talking to God, Rev. Kevin Loo touched on 2 things that morning. Firstly, he spoke to the cell group leaders specifically. What to preach during cell group sessions? He said that a good leader should know the need of his cell group members. The message should be tailored to meet those needs.

Secondly, he touched on boy girl relationships.

Proverbs 18:22 “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.”

He then went on to debunk the common belief that God has that one specific person meant for us, mentioning that nowhere in the Bible is that written. In order for a relationship to work, you must make it work!

After that session, breakfast ensued. After a games session, we had our beloved Dr. Angeline step up to share about her experience as a houseman. She urged all of us to be passionate, teachable and proactive. She encouraged us to never give up and go the extra mile for our patients, and maintain a good relationship with our colleagues and nurses. The new graduates managed to have many of their questions answered, and the students got to see what their future would be like.

The next session, was a time of testimony sharing and vision casting. 3 mission team leaders shared about their experience in the mission field. We heard of many miracles and how God has worked powerfully amongst the teams. Then Dalvin shared briefly about what the Malaysian Fellowship has in store for the next 12 months. A big Christmas event, Winter Conference, numerous guest speakers and 2010 Humanitarian Missions, just to name a few. Last but not least, we honoured our new graduates with pens engraved with their initials, and wished them the best of luck in the next chapter of their lives.

We would like to thank Rev. Kevin Loo and Keith Tay for taking the time to speak to us. Thanks to Kysern for organizing such an amazing event, and the CHC team for helping us out along the way. Fellowship of Doctor's Conference 2009

The Fellowship of Doctor's Conference is just around the corner! We're going to have a wonderful time of fellowship, being equipped and empowered by our guest speakers, and of course lots of food and fun! It will also be a great time for us to meet fellow medical students from Volgograd State Medical University (VSMU), International Medical University (IMU), and Monash University.

Some highlights during the conference would be :

MF Humanitarian Missions 09 : MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus! We’re so glad to inform you that our 12 teams of 120 medical students and doctors have returned safely from the mission field with amazing reports and testimonies. God has truly exceeded all our expectations!

This year we mobilized our teams to Xian (China), Chennai and Udayarpalayam (India), Medan, Bandung and Surabaya (Indonesia), Tapah, Cameron Highlands and Gopeng (Peninsular Malaysia), as well as Sipitang, Sibu and Kuching (East Malaysia). We had the privilege to provide mobile medical clinics, social supports for orphans, education programs for children, and to preach the gospel to many unreached groups throughout Asia.

We have come to realize that missions isn’t so much about what man does for God, instead it’s about what God does through man. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all our Mission Team Leaders, Base Camp Leaders and our Mission Director for your passion and dedication to serve and for all your hard work. Always remember, in everything we do, we do as unto the Lord.

On behalf of the Malaysian Fellowship, I would also like to sincerely thank all our partners for your financial support, prayers and encouragement in enabling us to make this year’s MF Humanitarian Missions a huge success. We thank God and give Him all the glory for all the great things He has done through our teams. We are looking forward to send more than 200 medical students and doctors next year for our MF Humanitarian Missions.

I pray that as you read the mission reports, you realize the fruits of your hard labor, constant prayers and financial support. All glory to Jesus!
